Our Shield and Glory
By Karen Pourbabaee
“But Thou O Lord art a shield about me, My glory and the One who lifts my head.” Psalm 3:3 NAS
Our Heavenly Father is many things to us. First, because of His tender love, He is our protector. He’s a living shield in Psalm 3, protecting us from the enemy’s attacks, Satan’s fiery darts. In the context of the Old Testament, a shield was full body protection at least five feet tall, made of wood and covered in animal skin. The Lord indeed is a shield about us, completely surrounding us and safeguarding all that lives behind the shield…our spirit, soul, and body. He is our personal guard, always on duty. Thank Him each morning for His vigilant care!
Secondly, He wants to become our glory. Imagine that. Glory is that quality of splendor, magnificence, radiant beauty, and highest achievement. The Lord is glorious beyond comprehension, yet desires to share His glory. Though our lives are tarnished, He wants us to shine. By exposing darkness and shining His purifying light within, we’re transformed and strengthened so we may lift our heads. Gone is shame, sadness, weakness, doubt, and fear. Enter forgiveness, love, joy, strength, hope and peace as we become living icons of His glory in the world. Enter His courts with thanksgiving!
Finally, with our heads lifted, we can see clearly in the distance. As a believer desiring faithfulness, seeing God’s vision for our lives is essential. Let God be your glory, and your yielded life will become rich with His vision. Step out into the wonderful plan God fashioned for you long ago. He has worked in you that you may see. Amen!
