“The truth that dwells in us and will be with us forever.”
2 John 2 NAB
Jesus told us, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” ( John 14:6) Truth is emphasized five times in John’s short letter.
Our lives are designed to be a journey of truth.
Want to know the truth? Seek Jesus.
John was writing to “all those who know the truth.” (v.1)
He points out we must know the Truth.
We must seek and come to know Jesus and His teachings.
The journey thus begins.
We travel, fueled by the inherent power of truth.
Want to know the way?
Follow Jesus.
John rejoiced to find that some of the children were ‘walking in the truth.” (v.4)
Likewise, we must walk in the truth we know.
But we never know it all!
Christ, who dwells in us forever, will continue to teach us in greater depth. He adds to the truth we know and longs to teach us new things to propel us on our journeys.
Want to walk in truth?
Walk with Jesus.
A final admonition is penned in v.9: “Remain in the teaching of the Christ.”
It is a zone of safety in this world.
It is abiding in Christ. (John 15:5)
It keeps us on that narrow road that leads to life. (Matthew 7:16)
Want to find the life He has planned for you?
Remain in Jesus.
Knowing, walking in, and remaining in the Truth comprise God’s formula for a successful sojourn on our earthly exile.
Jesus is clear—He is the way, the truth, and the life.
This journey of truth begins with Jesus.
Find Him. Come to know Him.
Walk with Him. Remain in Him.
He gives you life.
He will guide you in His way.
Jesus will dwell in you and will be with you forever.
Amen.
