"As your president, I will never allow the creation of a central bank digital currency. This would be a dangerous threat to freedom, and I will stop it from coming to America," Trump declared, expressing concerns about the government gaining absolute control over individuals' money without their knowledge.
CBDCs, digital versions of cash regulated by central banks, have sparked debates about privacy and government control. While there is currently no official proposal from the Federal Reserve for a CBDC, the topic has gained prominence in U.S. politics, drawing attention from politicians like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Formerly critical of cryptocurrency, Trump's disclosure from August 2023 revealed ownership of over $2.5 million in ether, showcasing a shift in his stance on digital assets.
The issue of CBDCs has become a focal point for Governor Ron DeSantis' office in Florida, surpassing traditional wedge issues like gun rights and abortion. Samuel Armes of the Florida Blockchain Business Association highlighted concerns about encroachment on civil liberties, prompting the drafting and passage of an anti-CBDC bill in the state's Senate.
Despite global exploration of CBDCs by central banks, the Bank of America, in a November report, suggested that the issuance of a U.S. digital dollar by the Federal Reserve is unlikely in the near term.
The Biblical Perspective on Freedom, Control and Leadership
The Bible provides guidance on the concept of freedom, emphasizing the importance of liberty in various aspects of life.
In Galatians 5:1, it is stated, "For freedom Christ freed us. Stand fast therefore and do not be entangled again with the yoke of bondage."
This verse underscores the biblical value of freedom, cautioning against entanglement in forms of bondage. Warnings are sounding at alarming rates of the potential abuse of CBDC's, and the restrictions on people's faith should it run opposite of what the government pushes as truth and fact.
The Bible also addresses the theme of control, warning against oppressive authority and emphasizing the need for God's guidance.
Proverbs 3:5-6 advises, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths." This verse encourages reliance on God rather than human control, highlighting the importance of seeking His guidance in all aspects of our lives.
Corrupt leadership is outright condemned in the Bible, and the Word of God encourages the pursuit of righteousness.
Proverbs 29:2 states, "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people mourn." This verse underscores the biblical principle that leadership should be characterized by righteousness and justice, discouraging corruption and oppression.
As globalization spreads through governments across the world, Christians must remain aware of the plans that are being put into action.
As Jesus said in Matthew 10:16: "Look, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves." Things will, and are, changing, but there is a peace that passes understanding in Christ Jesus, that He is ultimately in control and victorious over the world.
