“I give you a new command: Love each other. You must love each other as I have loved you. (John 13:34 NCV)
I thought I could have a political discussion with a family member via email, but I said something that upset him.
He swore at me in a response email.
A week later, I learned of a woman who does ultra-sounds for women who want abortions and was spit on by another Christian.
Sadly, the email the family member sent me was hurtful and hateful.
While the woman who was spit on experienced a hateful act from a Christian.
I worked for a local cable channel, and a co-worker who directed things didn’t like the way I ran the camera.
It seemed like he hated me.
Another woman that I never had a good relationship with disliked me too.
Furthermore, I was picked on as a kid because I had learning difficulties. Based on the way they treated me, I felt like the kids hated me.
Sometimes I feel like I have some good reasons to dislike people, nevertheless I realize we are called to love one another.
There are a lot of people that have hurt me by their actions, However, it’s wrong to hate them, in the end I am only hurting myself and disobeying God.
When people do things to us, we are called to forgive them and love them as Jesus has done for us.
There will always be people we dislike or sadly even hate.
When we encounter those people, we need to pray for them and ask God to help us to forgive and love them instead.
Is there someone in your life you need to forgive and love as Jesus has done for you?
