Friend,
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is planning to hold a vote on HR 8404 this month.
Deliberately misnamed the “Respect for Marriage Act,” HR 8404, in truth, destroys marriage, allowing just about any perverse union to be considered “marriage” in the eyes of the law.
That includes child bride, polygamous and same-sex marriages.
But deconstructing marriage is not enough for some radical LGBTQ groups. Now they want to end the religious freedom rights of any who might disagree with them.
In a 27-page rant, the powerful HRC group characterizes religious belief as “prejudice” and “discrimination” that lead to “mistreatment” of people living a LGBTQ lifestyle.
In fact, HRC claims that religious freedoms “threaten the basic dignity of LGBT people.”
As a result, HRC is trying to force Congress to eliminate religious freedom.
They are demanding that ALL RELIGIOUS EXEMPTION PROVISIONS BE ELIMINATED and, therefore, the LGBTQ agenda will be imposed on every American.
HRC and their pressure tactics have become so intimidating that they coerced 12 multinational corporations to send their lobbyists to Capitol Hill, hoping to twist the arms of senators into voting for this monstrous travesty.
But there is one thing politicians fear even more than highly paid corporate lobbyists, and that is the will of the people … especially around election time.
Fax Congress NOW—Demand they VOTE NO on HR 8404!
HRC and its lobbyists and allied organizations believe that people of faith must be forced to bow before the LGBTQ agenda.
For decades, I have been on the front lines defending people of faith against an onslaught of censorship and intimidation from such groups.
I have defended former Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis since 2015 for her deeply held religious convictions.
She refused to use her title and authority to endorse a “marriage” that ran contrary to the Bible’s standard.
Her life was radically changed when she surrendered to the Lord a few years before her case became an international phenomenon.
Kim’s case is still ongoing, even though the Kentucky legislature unanimously passed a law to accommodate her religious beliefs.
Now radicals in Congress are trying to erase that protection.
Liberty Counsel submitted an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in 303 Creative v. Elenis, defending a Christian website designer’s right to refuse to create same-sex marriage websites that violate the deeply held religious beliefs of the owner and designer.
Lorie Smith, founder of the design firm, serves everyone but cannot use her design skills and creativity to express messages that violate her deeply held religious beliefs.
However, under the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act, Smith could be punished simply for offering to create websites that serve only weddings consistent with her belief that marriage is between one man and one woman.
The First Amendment protects creative expression, and the state cannot force individuals to convey a government-approved message that conflicts with their religious beliefs.
Film, theater, art and other creative expressions would not exist if the government could censor such messages.
If the government is allowed to censor and dictate the work of creative people like Lorie, we would never have had great and thought-provoking works like Fahrenheit 451 (a tome against censorship), To Kill a Mockingbird (an indictment of racism) or The Crucible (a thinly veiled criticism of McCarthy-era congressional witch hunts).
Each of these works of art were anti-establishment, calling into question popular trends and government practices of the day.
If the government now requires artists to conform to a government-crafted message ... artistic expression, religious expression and expression of any of our other First Amendment rights will be doomed.
The Colorado law seeking to force government speech into the mouths and works of people cannot stand.
HR 8404 would spawn more laws like this one.
This case will be heard in December.
Democrats, and even a few Republicans, are working to make attacks on faith exponentially worse.
The Senate Democrat leadership has promised to pass the (Dis)Respect for Marriage Act this month.
We need to urgently reach out to every member of the Senate to demand they oppose HR 8404.
This bill passed the House, and Sen. Schumer is desperate to get it to Joe Biden for his signature.
The Senate vote count is very close.
In fact, it’s far too close! Rush urgent faxes to the Senate against HR 8404.
The movement seeking to eliminate Christian thought, action, speech and works from American culture is getting louder and stronger, thanks in large part to well-funded lobbying groups like HRC. We must fight back!
Consider making a generous donation to our legal fund so we can continue defending every American’s right to religious freedom. When you do, a generous Challenge Grant will DOUBLE THE IMPACT of your gift!
