Today’s Question
Jennifer Woodley
‘And remember I am with you always, to the end of the age.’ (Matthew 28:20) NRSV
This is the promise Jesus made to His eleven disciples before leaving this earth.
Jesus knew these men, sorrowful over the departure of their Lord and friend, needed to hear these comforting words.
Christ would replace His physical presence amongst them with the Holy Spirit in their hearts.
And with the power of the Spirit, they would be able to
‘go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.’ (Matthew 28:19-20).
This principle holds true for God’s people today as it did for the disciples.
The secret of our strength is the living testimony that Jesus is with us every moment, inspiring, directing and strengthening us.
In all our work, everything depends upon our awareness of His abiding presence.
Do we believe this and conduct our lives knowing that this omnipresent, omnipotent, unchangeable God actually walks with us all day long and gives us the unceasing awareness of His Holy Presence?
It almost sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? But surely the God who raised our Lord from the dead, filling Him with resurrection power, can do what He promised to the disciples for us as well.
Nothing is too hard for our God.
And so, the question on this day is, will we take Jesus at His word and live into His promise,
‘And remember I am with you always, to the end of the age’.
Let’s not rest until we can join with the eleven disciples and say, ‘Yes, Lord, I believe’.
