WE ARE MORE THAN CONQUERORS IN CHRIST

More Than Conquerors

In Romans 8:31-39, the apostle Paul, who suffered so greatly for our Savior, makes a wonderful declaration: 

no trial, no suffering, no injustice, not even death itself, can separate us from our Father’s love, power, and presence. Rather than helpless victims, we are more than conquerors. One translation puts it this way: “overwhelming victory is ours” (NLT).

Although these words speak to the certainty and completeness of our victory over sin, evil, and other challenges, the words, “more” than conquerors, beg additional consideration. 

Yes, we are triumphant soldiers of the cross, commanded to take down every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). 

We battle the dark powers behind the wickedness in the world, and stand firm in God’s armor (Eph. 6:11-13). 

But what is the “more” that Romans 8:37 says we are?

Soldiers do not call their commanding officer, “Papa.” 

They do not eat at his table or relate to him in intimate love and fellowship. 

They do not live with him in rooms prepared just for them (John 14:2-3). 

When we trust Christ for salvation, we receive forgiveness of sins, eternal life, and freedom from all condemnation (1 John 1:9, John 3:16, Romans 8:1). 

We are given the right to become the children of God, (John 1:12) who are accepted in the beloved (Eph.1:4-6). 

We are made perfect and holy (Heb. 10:14) and will one day rule and reign with Jesus (2 Timothy 2:11-12). 

And that just barely scratches the surface!

We are so much more than victorious; we are beloved, treasured children of the living God, secure in our “forever home.”

PRAYER: Dear heavenly Father, thank you so much that in you, we have not just won the war, but we have received your eternal love as your children through Jesus our Lord. Amen.
