Sure and Steadfast Anchor
Jennifer Woodley
“We have this hope, a sure and steadfast anchor for the soul, a hope that enters the inner shrine behind the curtain.” Hebrews 6:19 (NRSV)
Our spiritual life ought not to be overshadowed by anxiety or fear, but rather on the confident assurance that we have a sure and steadfast anchor for our soul: the fact that it is impossible that God would prove false (verse 18).
We can seize this hope that is central to the Christian faith.
All spiritual formation is founded on the trustworthiness of God’s character and the truth of God’s revelation in His son, Jesus Christ.
This conviction leads to life-sustaining hope, and hope is a sure and steadfast anchor for our soul.
No longer do we need to be tossed about by the surmounting waves of doubt, anxiety and fear.
God is stable, He is to be trusted and will do all that He promises in His word.
God is true and does not change, in this we can put our hope.
Do we find ourselves without an anchor to keep us grounded and secure in life right now?
If so, we are most likely placing our hope in either someone or something other than God.
Anyone or anything other than our Creator is a poor place in which to put our hope.
Let us patiently persist in our trust in God, even when our circumstances are difficult and test our faith.
Like Abraham, we can maintain a confident expectation, knowing that God answers the cries of those who diligently wait for Him.
Our dependence upon God will have a great reward as we anchor ourselves in the Almighty alone.
