Generous Service

‘Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him.’ John 13:5 (NRSV)
Jesus, knowing that all power belonged to Him, was able to serve.
Jesus was not needy; he was secure.
He knew He was God’s beloved son.
He came from God and was returning to the Father. Jesus was grounded in His identity.
He belonged to God and because of this, he was able to serve generously.
When our identity is rock-solid secure, we can do the same.
We know all our needs are met by God, so we are able to turn our attention, just as Jesus did, to others.
We can wash the feet of His disciples, by being generously rich towards others, because He has been generously rich in mercy and kindness towards us (Ephesians 2:7).
Do we really know whose we are and the implications of that truth?
All our needs are met by our Heavenly Father and because of this, we are free to serve others.
‘Father please continue to remind me that I am wealthy when I am secure in your love and care. Keep my heart and mind fixed on knowing that as you meet my needs, I can follow the example of Jesus and serve others. Thank you.’
