Bare bones truth ...
Life is short.
Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow. (Psalm 144:4)
For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. (James 4:14b)
LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is. (Psalm 39:4)
You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure. (Psalm 39:5)
For my days pass away like smoke, and my bones burn like a furnace. (Psalm 102:3)
Like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be recovered, so we must die. But that is not what God desires; rather, he devises ways so that a banished person does not remain banished from him. (2 Samuel 14:14)
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. (Ephesians 5:15-17)
For we were born but yesterday and know nothing. Our days on earth are as fleeting as a shadow. (Job 8:9)
We blossom like a flower and then wither. Like a passing shadow, we quickly disappear. (Job 14:2)
The grass withers and the flowers fade beneath the breath of the LORD. And so it is with people. The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever. (Isaiah 40:7-8)
And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, (Hebrews 9:27)
Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom. (Psalm 90:12)
