Fear Not
Toni Babcock
When Jesus told his disciples on more than one occasion to “fear not” he wasn’t playing the role of a super-hero—he was voicing a command of the God who saves.
He was expressing in two short words, ‘I am Jesus the One who saves.
Let go of your fear and trust Me’.
Granted, it’s not always easy to do.
There’s a lot that can raise our anxious thoughts these days.
I was recently texting a daughter and found out she was suffering from the flu.
She explained she had become overly concerned to the point of feeling like she might pass out at times.
“Too much media on deadly flu pandemics, corona virus etc. bringing out my inner- hypochondriac,” she hypothesized.
I remembered I still had her pre-school voice on a recording from over 40 years ago reciting the Bible verse
“Casting all your care upon Him for he careth for you,” (1 Peter 5:7 KJV).
Reminding her of the recording, I texted back “There is your answer!”
She laughed and thanked me.
Trusting God’s watchful care over our lives can calm our fears.
It’s what pleases Jesus.
He left his calming peace with his disciples before he went to the cross.
On the night he was betrayed he told them
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world,” (John 16:33 NIV).
