Ilhan Omar Demands Release of Muslim Brotherhood Senior Member
Another week and another controversy surrounding freshman Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who in a tweet demanded the release of a senior member the Muslim Brotherhood, Hoda Abdelmonem.
Adbelmonem, also referred to as Abdel Moneim and Abdelmoneim, was detained in Egypt in November 2018. Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is known for cracking down on the Muslim Brotherhood, a radical Islamist organization.
As Clarion’s National Correspondent Shireen Qudosi wrote at the time,
Sisi brought a reality check to the Arab Spring when he led the military overthrow of the Muslim Brotherhood government in 2013, ushering a spiritual and cultural Islamic reformation with widespread popular support from Egyptians on a grass-roots level.

Contrary to how Islamists in the West paint Muslim Brotherhood agents — as civil rights leaders and humanitarians — the fact is that the Muslim Brotherhood should be designated as a terror organization. The United States is long overdue in assigning that status to the Brotherhood as at least seven other countries worldwide have done, including Egypt.
In the picture above, Omar poses with Abdelmonem’s daughter Jihad Khaled (a.k.a. Gehad Khaled) and her husband Abdullah Elshamy. On February 13, 2019, Gehad was also featured in an Al Jazeera-produced video segment dramatizing her mother’s situation as a human rights crisis. Shortly afterwards (and likely not coincidentally), Gehad gained the attention and audience of Ilhan Omar, who used the platform to promote further support for ideological terror.
This isn’t the first time Omar has supported terrorists. Despite Omar’s district being the number one terrorist recruitment hotspot in the U.S. according to the FBI, the congresswoman (when she was a state representative) asked a judge to show leniency in sentencing a number of young men in Minnesota for trying to join ISIS.
