God’s Guiding Light
Jennifer Woodley
‘If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.’ 1 John 1:6 (NIV).
Imagine taking a bushwalk in the dark of night or venturing into an unknown place that has no lights or even exploring a cave in the pitch black with no light to guide us.
And imagine saying to ourselves, ‘I need no light to guide me because I know exactly where I’m going.’
We’d just be fooling ourselves.
We’d have no hope of finding the right way to go and would soon be lost.
That is how it is when we say we are living life with Christ, but keep making choices that lead us further into the darkness of sin.
We are kidding ourselves and living a lie.
Just as we need a torch in dark places to determine the right way to go, so we need to walk each step along our journey with the pure light of God directing us.
We walk with God when we stay close to Him, remain open, transparent and honest, acknowledging any darkness the Lord reveals to us.
Are our eyes open to see the light He is illuminating upon our path?
God will show us where to go, what to say, how to behave and the right decisions to make.
He is the torch that sheds light on our current situation, no matter what that might be.
Stay close to receive His guiding light.
‘Father today I need your light to shine upon my path. Show me the way to go Lord and keep me open to what you are saying to me. Thank you.'
