NEVER ALONE
Shirley Lowrey
One fall in New York, we watched starlings gather in large numbers to begin their journey south. It was quite an amazing sight. They seemed to realize they could not make this journey alone.
In 1 Peter chapter 4, Peter was writing to a group of Christians who were suffering. He says in verses 7-10:
“The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” (NIV)
They definitely needed one another and it would not help to complain. Loving one another was more important than agreeing.
Our journey in life is not meant to be taken alone. We need our families, our friends, and especially our church family. Each one plays an important role.
Think of the people who have been with you on your journey. Do you seek out a group? Do you reach out to someone who is alone? Jesus did not try to minister alone. He sent out his apostles two by two. God has promised to be with you and others are waiting to help, sent by God especially for you.
God, as I reach out to you for comfort and strength, may I also reach out to those around me. Thank You for Your love, care and protection. In Jesus’ name. Amen
