Walk the Talk

‘He said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, no staff, no bag, nor bread, nor money – not even an extra tunic.”’ Luke 9:3 (NRSV)
There are times when we are called to depend entirely upon God’s provision. This was one of those occasions. The disciples were instructed to set out on their journey not equipped with the essentials that would make the mission easier. Instead, without any resources whatsoever, they were being prepared to see just how God would meet their every single need. They were about to practice the faith they were called to share.
To walk the talk.
How can we effectively share our faith and trust in Jesus Christ if we do not actively believe that He will meet our daily needs? Do we busy ourselves ensuring all our needs and more are met and then proclaim that we trust God to meet them? Our actions indicate something very different.
We need to live in such a way that indicates we believe what we confess. There is to be no incongruence.
Jesus plainly stated in Matthew 6 that God is willing and able to provide what we spend our lives worrying and fussing about. We must not be collectors of resources but instead, rely on God’s blessings.
We only need to direct our energies towards seeking God’s Kingdom first and know that He will take care of our needs accordingly.
The invitation today is to show others that our God can meet all our needs from the abundance of His rich storehouse as we confess His goodness and our dependence upon His provision.
