What Are You Thinking About?

What are you thankful for today? Quick, no hesitation, say something.

When I asked a guy in church what he was thankful for, it took him several seconds to answer, “I have legs, and I can walk.” If I am honest when the pastor told us to greet someone and tell them one thing we were thankful for, my brain did not have a quick reply. I had to think a moment. This was not because I had a wide assortment of things on my mind that I was grateful for either.

When I think about it, if the pastor had instructed me to tell the person next to me one worry or fear on my mind, I may have come up with a quicker reply, if I was willing to be honest.

I have seen many people hesitate when asked what they are thankful for, just think of Thanksgiving dinner. Do you ever have a hard time coming up with an answer?

I believe this is because we are usually thinking about our worries, fears, and problems instead, and how to solve them in our own strength. 

We do not feel thankful because we are focused on the wrong thing. Therefore, we feel hypocritical when asked what we are thankful for.

But what if our thoughts were filled with things we were thankful for, loftier things, higher things? 

When someone asked, we not only had a speedy answer, we offered them a multitude of answers, because that was what we thought about. Imagine for a moment how this would transform our lives.
