GREG LAURIE:
Have you noticed how you always hear an excited buzz from the Christian community when some famous athlete or celebrity embraces faith in Christ (or at least appears to)?
We want to say to nonbelievers, “Look, we have Celebrity X on our side now!” And then we want to put them on Christian TV and rush them out into public to represent us, disregarding the warning from Scripture that tells us to not elevate a new convert.
We want to say to nonbelievers, “Look, we have Celebrity X on our side now!” And then we want to put them on Christian TV and rush them out into public to represent us, disregarding the warning from Scripture that tells us to not elevate a new convert.
But so often, that celebrity falls short, and we end up embarrassed.
Acting legend Steve McQueen was the highest-paid movie star of his day. He starred in blockbuster films like Bullitt, The Great Escape, and Towering Inferno. He became a Christian near the end of his life, but there was never an opportunity for him to be pushed into the spotlight as the poster-boy for Christianity—because shortly after coming to Christ, he began battling terminal cancer.
But that’s not to say that Steve didn’t want to use his platform to tell others about Jesus. In fact, he did. One of his dying regrets was that he wasn’t able to do more for God’s kingdom.
That’s one of the reasons I wanted to create a film about his life—to fulfill that wish of Steve McQueen’s and allow him to help tell the world about Jesus. He truly was an American icon, and people do sit up and take notice where celebrities are involved, and Steve McQueen really did become a sincere follower of Christ…so I can’t think of a better way to direct Steve’s fame toward God’s glory than with this exciting new film, Steve McQueen: American Icon.
If you’d like to be a part of helping Steve McQueen accomplish his unfulfilled wish of telling others what Christ did for him, I invite you to make a donation to the making of this film. We hope to raise $200,000 by September 15 to cover the significant expenses associated with its creation, including filming, editing, producing, marketing, and promotion costs.

Thank you for helping me spread the gospel by telling the life story of Steve McQueen!
