In Pursuit of Peace – Jennifer Woodley
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives." John 14:27 (NRSV)
Peace is not a commodity that can be bought. Nor is it a visible possession that the world can serve up in an attractive form and hand to us. Though many have tried to pursue peace from the world in its various forms, it is to no avail. The peace the world offers is short-lived, if not illusive altogether.
Real peace is only found in Christ. Real peace is found through the indwelling Holy Spirit. Jesus tells his disciples about a peace that radiates through believers from the inside out. The world offers nothing like this!
This peace from the Holy Spirit can ease our troubled hearts. This peace can give us courage when we are facing fear. This peace transcends our human understanding. It is a peace that the world just can’t comprehend because it is an unseen peace. This peace is more valuable, more attainable, and more tangible than anything we may chase after in this world. And the peace that Christ speaks of is more lasting and satisfying. Seek His peace for it is waiting within you.
‘Lord thank you for the indwelling Holy Spirit who gives me peace. As your peace settles upon me, make me an instrument of peace, bringing a focused, non-anxious and calming presence wherever you lead me. Amen.’
