ACLU TO ATTACK RELIGIOUS LIBERTY AND MAKE DEFENSE COSTLY

Earlier this week, Liberty Counsel helped secure another victory against the ACLU when U. S. Magistrate Judge Edward Atkins entered an order in Miller v. Davis, denying the plaintiffs' demand that Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis pay the ACLU $231,000 in attorney's fees.

In response, the ACLU is vowing to fight the decision so that financial penalties will be a deterrent to future pro-liberty efforts.
 

"The ACLU and others still want to punish Kim Davis for daring to take a stand for religious liberty," said Horatio Mihet, Liberty Counsel's Vice President of Legal Affairs and Chief Litigation Counsel. "The court recognized that the ACLU does not deserve to get paid for its bullying. Kim Davis never violated her conscience, and she still has her job and her freedom—that is a win for Kim and for all Americans who want to perform public service without being forced to compromise their religious liberties," said Mihet.

The ACLU is using part of their recently acquired $80 million cash windfall to ramp up their pro-LGBTQ agenda in the courts while vociferously opposing laws protecting religious liberty that they have determined to be "antigay."

On Wednesday, Liberty Counsel's legal team was once again in court presenting oral argument in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit urging against the reinstatement of Ermold v. Davis. This case was dismissed with two other marriage license lawsuits that were filed against Kim Davis in 2015.

"The Ermold plaintiffs are not satisfied with the marriage license they received while Kim Davis was in jail," said Roger Gannam, Liberty Counsel's Assistant Vice President of Legal Affairs. "Their vain claims for money and attention were rightfully dismissed, and the court should deny their vindictive attempt to take away the religious liberty victory Kim Davis secured for all Americans who want to perform public service without giving up their constitutional rights."

Liberty Counsel is engaged in a number of efforts across America, resisting radical pro-LGBTQ mandates, and protecting religious liberty.
