Saturday afternoon:
Dear Tom,
In the 1860s, slavery divided this great nation more than any other issue at that time. Our differences resulted in the Civil War, which sometimes pitted brother against brother and resulted in more than 600,000 deaths.
Three years before the Civil War began, Abraham Lincoln won the Illinois Republican Party's nomination for the U.S. Senate on June 16, 1858. In his acceptance speech, he borrowed from Mark 3:25, saying:
"A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half slave and half free. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved — I do not expect the house to fall — but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing or all the other."
Now, no one is claiming that things are bad enough to start another civil war. But the rancor and bitterness we see politically, socially and religiously these days is alarming. So, Grassfire is asking our team members if we have become the "Divided" States of America. Please let us know what you think by voting in our latest Quick Poll now.
My comments: I believe that the current Division between Blue and Red America is more serious than it was in Lincoln's time. Blue America is in Overt Rebellion agaisnt God and His Word, which was not the case in Lincoln's day. Both the North and the South professed Faith in God. Unless Blue America, and all who Oppose God REPENT, America has No Future.
