WHAT IF HILLARY CHOSE OBAMA FOR VEEP?

Everyone is wondering who Hillary is going to pick to be her running mate.
Is it going to be Elizabeth Warren?
Will it be Tim Kaine?
Could it be Bernie?
Frankly, I am very skeptical about all those names.
One name I never hear mentioned in the discussions might seem out of left field. But, in my opinion, the Democrats need a miracle, a “hail Mary” pass, just to be competitive against the juggernaut that is Donald Trump.
So what about this crazy idea? Barack Obama.
When I suggest this to people, here’s what they quickly say: “He’s not eligible.”
My answer, of course, is: “When did that ever stop him?”
What they mean, this time, is not about where he was born or who his daddy was. Instead, it’s a question of constitutional eligibility because he served two terms.
They are thinking about the 22nd Amendment. But does the 22nd Amendment prohibit someone who has served two terms as president from becoming vice president?
Not by my reading: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this Article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this Article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this Article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.”
Note the term elected.
Obama wouldn’t be running for president. He would be running for vice president. The 22nd Amendment makes no reference to the vice presidency, not does it say someone who has served two terms cannot succeed to the vice presidency from the presidency.
Is that nitpicking? Sure. Is that not the spirit of the Constitution? Sure. But it’s technically accurate – technically constitutional, which is much more than Obama can say about half or more of his actions as president in the last eight years.
So, why not?
You might notice Obama has decided to remain in Washington after leaving office. Unusual for ex-presidents. He likes Washington.
And can anyone imagine a more viable, helpful running mate for Hillary?
But, of course, it wouldn’t be Hillary’s selection. It would be Obama’s.
It would be a shocker, no doubt. That’s why I’m throwing it out there. I haven’t seen anyone else suggest it.
But I wouldn’t put anything past these people.
Hillary wants the top job so bad she can taste it.
Obama has tasted it for eight years. He can’t bear to leave Washington. I don’t think he’s anxious to leave the limelight, either. Whether he is vice president or not, we have not seen the end of him.
So I ask you the question: Am I crazy? Or do I still think enough like one of these misnamed “progressives” because of my misspent youth to understand that these people will do anything and say anything to hold on to power?
Somehow, Obama has managed to maintain popularity with his base, despite an atrocious record of abysmal failure. It’s not an easy thing to do. But it sure would be convenient for Hillary’s chances if Obama would go for it.
And, by the way, if by some miracle she’s indicted, then Obama could succeed her without a technical violation of the 22nd Amendment.
