ELECTION 2016
NEWT GINGRICH SPILLS SECRET OF TRUMP'S SUCCESS
'There's a really big, deep argument about future of Republican Party'
More than a week ago, Donald Trump clinched the number of delegates needed to win the Republican nomination for president. On Tuesday, primaries in six states are likely to cement that spot.
But all is not quiet in the Republican camp. Trump the outsider still rankles some party insiders.
At another time, Newt Gingrich was the Republican rebel. Sheryl Attkisson with Full Measure sat with the former speaker of the house and asked if there was a crisis in the Republican Party.
“Well, I think there’s a really big, deep argument about the future of the Republican Party, but it’s not much of a crisis,” said Gingrich. “It’s 80 or 90 percent of the party nationally, versus 5 or 10 percent of the party in Washington. So in the end, Washington will lose and the country will win.”
“Do you see Trump as part of the solution or part of the problem?” asked Attkisson.
“I don’t know yet if he’s the solution because we don’t know how he’s going to work out,” replied Gingrich. “But he certainly is a sign that the unhappiness in the country is so deep that Trump made more sense than 16 other choices. There were a lot of really smart, competent people running for president. He beat all of them. So something’s happening out there, and he resonates with something in the American people. The country wants somebody who’s going to kick over the table.”
“Do you agree that that’s what they should get?” asked Attkisson.
“Absolutely,” said Gingrich. “I think that the system is sick, and I think that it needs to be very dramatically overhauled.”
In 1995, Gingrich was named Time’s Man of the Year for his role in ending the four-decades-long Democratic majority in the House.
“It was wild,” said Gingrich. “You had Democrats who literally had served 40 years without ever having a Republican take control of the House. The Republican side had almost no institutional knowledge of how to run the House.”
“The first couple of days after we took over,” he continued, “the Democratic chairman would come in and automatically sit in the chairman’s seat, and a staffer would have to say, ‘You know, sir, you’re now in the ranking member’s seat.’ It was really a period of enormous change. We passed welfare reform, which was the most successful conservative reform in modern times; we balanced the budget for four years, the only time in your lifetime you had four consecutive federal balanced budgets. We did it. So we were very very aggressive, and that reform energy lasted about three and a half years.”
What happened to this revolution after three and a half years?
“It got worn out,” stated Gingrich. “We were a populist insurgency against the establishment. Establishments, as Trump will discover, have enormous staying power. They’ve built in laws and regulations and bureaucracies and lobbyists and friends in the news media – I mean, the bias against dramatic change is very deep.”
“Do you see any parallels between your popularity in 1994 and the fall after three years,” asked Attkisson, “in what you foresee for Donald Trump?”
“Sure,” replied Gingrich. “What Trump has to understand is, if he does win, and if he is serious about reform, that Washington will resemble Madison, Wisconsin, times 10. So whatever the size of the huge demonstrations that the liberals and the unions put on against Scott Walker’s reforms, you have to expect it will be much bigger, much more bitter, much more hostile here.”
When asked about the biggest threat to Trump’s supposed success, Gingrich answered, “Right now the biggest threat to Trump is Trump. Trump has the biggest upside and the biggest downside of any candidate I’ve ever seen. I think Trump will probably win.”
When asked about a possible place in the Trump administration, Gingrich stated, “I don’t have interest. … We haven’t talked about it at all.”
“Do you welcome such a conversation?” asked Attkisson.
“That’s up to Donald,” said Gingrich.

If Hillary is elected, America is FINISHED as Founded. America would become a godless, Socialist, Secular Humanist STATE, Preparing to accept the Antichrist as their "god." (Revelation 13)
