Cameras in classrooms expose 'death to Jews' curriculum
WND has reported for more than 15 years Palestinian children are being taught in their schools and in media to hate Jews and to glorify violent jihad, death and child martyrdom.
Now, Israeli investigative journalist David Bedein and a team of senior journalists have produced a new short film to expose indoctrination in schools in Jerusalem and Bethlehem run by the United National Relief and Works Agency, or UNRWA.
One clip in “The UNRWA Road to Terror: Palestinian Classroom Incitement” shows a 13-year-old student at a UNRWA school declaring support for ISIS.
According to the State Department, the U.S. provided $390 million to help fund UNRWA in 2015.
A 7-year-old girl at a U.N. school in Jerusalem says, “We have to make war to prove we are stronger than the Jews,” and a 10-year-old at a U.N. school in Bethlehem declares, “We need to take steps to kill [Jews], and they will retreat and we will advance.”
Last July, Bedein and other members of his Center for Near East Research met with U.S. State Department officials who supervise school books for the Palestinian Authority and UNRWA. The officials assured Bedein that the new books will now reflect principles of peace, tolerance and U.N. values.
Bedein’s team decided to acquire all 240 of the new PA/UNRWA books and hired two journalists with doctoral degrees in Islamic studies to evaluate and translate them.
The experts concluded that the incitement to war in the new PA/UNRWA text books is worse than ever.
They presented their findings Jan. 6 to U.S. embassy officials meeting at the Knesset. Bedein’s team didn’t receive a follow-up response, however, and filed in inquiry with the U.S. government to ask about the U.S. view of the curriculum.
On March 18, the White House responded, insisting the school books met the standards.
A White House official stated that while “there is still work to be done, the Palestinian government has made significant progress in reducing inflammatory rhetoric and revising official textbooks.”
“Over the past few years, the PA has helped improve the Palestinian curriculum, including textbooks that discuss human rights and the Holocaust, which has contributed to a better education for young Palestinians,” the official said. “The Palestinian curriculum is transparent, and all textbooks are available for review in Arabic on the website of the official Palestinian Curriculum Development Center. The Government of Israel even approves of and utilizes the Palestinian texts for schools in East Jerusalem.”
But Bedein and his team found otherwise and presented their findings in their film.
Congress members move to block funding
Members of Congress have told FoxNews.com they plan to introduce bills before the summer recess cutting off funding from such schools.
Rep. Doug Lamborn, R-Colo., said the curriculum is a “crime against humanity, an outrage, and does not in any way prepare the Palestinian population or future generations of Palestinians for peace with Israelis.”
“It is unacceptable that the international community, including the United States, is funding UNRWA without demanding change,” he said.
Asked to comment, UNRWA spokesman Christopher Gunness said Fox News “is again being duped by David Bedein,” insisting that Bedein had mixed up U.N. schools with other Palestinian schools where incitement may occur. He also charged that students were asked leading questions, such as “how much do you hate Jews?”
But Gunness admitted UNRWA “uses the same curriculum as the PA and the Israeli Education Ministry” for schools in the West Bank and parts of Jerusalem.
A leading Palestinian human rights expert, Bassam Eid, told FoxNews.com that the film is accurate.
“The film accurately portrays UNRWA schools … advocacy of violence remains rampant dictated by teachers who run the U.S.-funded UNRWA schools,” he said.
