IRAQI COLUMNIST: ISIS TERROR IS BASED ON ISLAM
After 9/11, bin Laden boasted, 'This is a victory from Allah'
Bob Unruh
After the 9/11 terror attacks by Muslims that killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania, President George W. Bush pointedly noted that the enemy was not Islam, which he called a “religion of peace,” but terror.
And one of Barack Obama’s mantras during his presidency is that the terrorists are not representative of Islam, which teaches “peace,” but are just terrorists.
“ISIL is not ‘Islamic,'” he said recently. “No religion condones the killing of innocents, and the vast majority of ISIL’s victims have been Muslim.”
But now an Iraqi journalist at the pro-Iranian Iraqi newspaper Al-Akhbar says that’s exactly what ISIS represents: an outbreak of Islam.
The explanation by journalist Fadel Boula was uncovered by the Middle East Media Research Institute.
Boula, reported MEMRI, said ISIS and other terror organizations “are motivated by an extremist Salafi (Muslim) ideology and claim that their atrocities represent Allah’s will and directives.”
Boula wrote that the notion that terrorists “have no religion” is uttered as if it is “only a state of insanity that causes those afflicted with it to run amok, unaware of what they are doing or what [they seek] to achieve by their actions – [actions] that disgust not only human beings but [even] the beasts of the jungle.”
He said the terror “that is shaking the world today is not a natural disaster like a tornado, a thunderstorm or an earthquake, and it is not perpetrated by savage tribes.”
“It is perpetrated by people who enlist [because they are] inspired by a religious ideology. [These people] advocate enforcing and spreading [this ideology as a set of] dogmatic principles that must be imposed by the force of the sword, and which [mandate] killing, expulsion and destruction wherever they go.”
He blames the Salafi movement of Islam for the problem.
“Since its inception, this movement of terror has espoused a Salafi ideology that champions religious extremism, and brainwashed people of all ages have rallied around its flag, [people who were] trained to kill themselves and kill others in order to attain martyrdom.”
Boula said the terror organizations “that act in the name of religion were born when [the mujahideen] declared Islamic jihad against the Soviet forces in Afghanistan.”
“It was the Saudi sheikh Osama bin Laden who laid the cornerstone for the first [terror] cell, which he named Al-Qaida. Later he called to launch a war in the name of religion, and young believers, influenced by fatwas of extremist [clerics], especially Saudi ones, flocked from the Muslim lands [to Afghanistan].”
He wrote: “When the terrorists blew up the World Trade Center and several airplanes, killing thousands of victims, Osama bin Laden, surrounded by his people, said on television: ‘This is a victory from Allah.’ And now ISIS is bragging about killing innocent people in Paris, saying that it was ‘done with Allah’s approval,’ and threatening that the next attack will be in the U.S., Allah willing. And [Sheikh Yusouf] Al-Qaradhawi and others like him pray and hope that, in the wake of this terrorist momentum, a day will arrive when Muslims inundate Europe and subdue it to Islam. Is this not enough to convince [us] that terror [does] have a religion?”
Obama, on the other hand, repeatedly has insisted that Islam and terror are completely unrelated.
See one such statement:
Further, the Conservative Tribune has compiled a list of Obama's defenses of Islam, including:
- "The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam"
- "The sweetest sound I know is the Muslim call to prayer"
- "We will convey our deep appreciation for the Islamic faith, which has done so much over the centuries to shape the world – including in my own country."
- "As a student of history, I also know civilization's debt to Islam."
- "Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance."
- "I made it clear that America is not – and will never be – at war with Islam."
- "Islam is not part of the problem in combating violent extremism – it is an important part of promoting peace."
- "Throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality."
- "That experience guides my conviction that partnership between America and Islam must be based on what Islam is, not what it isn't. And I consider it part of my responsibility as president of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear."
One of Obama's recent "ISIL is not Islamic" comments brought a flood of response, not always positive, through Twitter.
Wrote Ron Christie: "#ISIS isn't Islamic? What kindergartner briefs the president on terrorism?"
Erick Brockway said: "Obama: 'ISIL is not Islamic' Hello? THIS ISIL? 'Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.'"
Christie also said: "@prolifebuttons: ISIL is not Islamic and Lois Lerner and the IRS is not corrupt. Obama is such a freaking liar. #ObamaSpeech'"
Obama has, at times, backed off from insisting there is no connection to Islam, stating terrorism is a perversion of Islam that teaches Muslims are supposed to attack and kill those who refuse to submit.
He said: "Part of our job, together, is to work to reject such extremism that infects too many of our young people. Part of that effort must be a continued rejection by Muslims of those who distort Islam to preach intolerance and promote violence, and it must also a rejection by non-Muslims of the ignorance that equates Islam with terror."
