As expected, with the first caucus and primary in the books, the presidential primary field is continuing to thin. Earlier today, we reported sources saying New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is suspending his campaign after placing a disappointing sixth last night.
And now, businesswoman Carly Fiorina has just announced she will bow out of the campaign as well, after finishing seventh last night.

Carly Fiorina has suspended her Republican presidential campaign after a poor showing in New Hampshire.
“While I suspend my candidacy today, I will continue to travel this country and fight for those Americans who refuse to settle for the way things are and a status quo that no longer works for them,” she said Wednesday in a statement released by her campaign.
The former tech executive finished in seventh place in Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary with just 4 percent of the vote. She had initially vowed to press on, but changed her mind Wednesday.
While Fiorina came out strong in the first debate performances, she struggled to maintain that momentum and ended up on the so-called “undercard” stage for several more recent debates.
And, despite performing better than some rivals in the Iowa caucuses — Fiorina won one delegate, tying former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and beating New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Ohio Governor John Kasich — ABC excluded her from the last debate, causing much controversy among voters, fellow candidates and GOP.
Some argued ABC was loathe to give the spotlight to a woman so skilled at taking on the Democrat’s anointed one, Hillary Clinton, and speaking to “women’s issues” from a perspective of strength, rather than weakness or victimhood. To that point, Fiorina’s Facebook post today leaves us with these powerful words:
This campaign was always about citizenship—taking back our country from a political class that only serves the big, the powerful, the wealthy, and the well connected. Election after election, the same empty promises are made and the same poll-tested stump speeches are given, but nothing changes. I’ve said throughout this campaign that I will not sit down and be quiet. I’m not going to start now. While I suspend my candidacy today, I will continue to travel this country and fight for those Americans who refuse to settle for the way things are and a status quo that no longer works for them.
To young girls and women across the country, I say: do not let others define you. Do not listen to anyone who says you have to vote a certain way or for a certain candidate because you’re a woman. That is not feminism. Feminism doesn’t shut down conversations or threaten women. It is not about ideology. It is not a weapon to wield against your political opponent. A feminist is a woman who lives the life she chooses and uses all her God-given gifts. And always remember that a leader is not born, but made. Choose leadership.

And while we may never get to see Fiorina go head-to-head with Hillary Clinton, let’s hope Fiorina continues to lend her strong voice to the GOP as we work to defeat whomever the Democrat nominee ends up being — and reclaim the White House.
