Obama Reminds Audience Constitution Prohibits Him from Staying in Office After End of Term
In a speech at the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Wednesday night, President Barack Obama laughingly countered a member of the audience who suggested he should stay in office after his term ends by explaining that the Constitution does not allow that.
In his speech, Obama rhetorically stated: “How do we keep America safe and strong without either isolating ourselves or trying to nation-build all over the world?”
Somebody in the audience shouted: “Keeping you as President!”
Obama then said: “Oh, well, I can’t do that. I can’t do that because of the Constitution. And I can’t do that because Michelle would kill me.”
The 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which was approved by Congress in 1947 and ratified by the states in 1951, says: "No person shall be elected to the office of the president more than twice, and no person who has held the office president, or acted as president, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected president shall be elected to the office of president more than once."
Prior to the ratification of the 22nd Amendment, the only president who served more than two terms was Franklin Roosevelt.
Last week, when Obama gave a speech at the White House explaining his plan to take unilateral action on gun control, he said that he believed in the Second Amendment.
“I believe in the Second Amendment. It’s there written on the paper,”Obama said in that speech. “It guarantees a right to bear arms. No matter how many times people try to twist my words around. I taught constitutional law, I know a little about this. I get it.”
In his speech at the National Prayer Breakfast on Feb. 5, Obama spoke out in defense of freedom of religion.
“Here at home and around the world, we will constantly reaffirm that fundamental freedom--freedom of religion--the right to practice our faith how we choose, to change our faith if we choose, to practice no faith at all if we choose, and to do so free of persecution and fear and discrimination,” Obama said then.
“There’s wisdom in our founders writing in those documents that help found this nation the notion of freedom of religion, because they understood the need for humility,” Obama said. “They also understood the need to uphold freedom of speech, that there was a connection between freedom of speech and freedom of religion. For to infringe on one right under the pretext of protecting another is a betrayal of both.”

My comments: Obama has continually demonstrated a Disregard for the Constitution. He would stay in office if he thought he could get away with it. Time will tell. 12 Months is a long time.
