AIRPORT COPS TOLD 'RUN AND HIDE' FROM GUNMEN
Police officers barred from carrying firearms in major U.S. city

Police officers who are tasked with working two of Chicago’s airports have been advised to run from any active shooters who happen to wage attacks at the facilities, in part because they’re barred from carrying firearms.
CNN reported the 300 officers hired for O’Hare and Midway airports will carry badges and be dressed in uniform, as well as drive official vehicles. And they’re also all certified as police officers in the state of Illinois, the news outlet said. But they can’t carry guns, Breitbart reported.
Internal documents obtained by CNN show these officers have been told to run and hide in the face of active shooters, rather than stand and fight.
“If evacuation is not possible, hide,” the documents said, Breitbart reported. “We must also ensure that unarmed security personnel … do not attempt to become part of the response but could be invaluable to the evacuation efforts.”
A training video for the officers says similarly.
“If evacuation is not possible, you should find a place to hide where the active shooter is less likely to find you,” the video states, Breitbart reported. “Block entry to your hiding place and lock the door.”
CNN includes a clip of an aviation police officer asserting the job of the 300 airport officers is not to replace Chicago’s force, but they ought to be allowed to carry guns, regardless.
“We just want to have the tools to do the job like every other law enforcement agency in the country,” the officer said, CNN reported. “We’re nothing but casualties if you tell us to run and hide. And how can the public look at us if they see police officers running and hiding? That goes against the very oath we were sworn to that we took.”
