OBAMA MOVES TO RESTART FUNDING ANTI-ISRAEL U.N. AGENCY
Comes as Hamas celebrates anniversary calling for annihilation of Jewish state

Thousands of Palestinians marched in celebration of Hamas’ 28th anniversary Monday chanting slogans of support for the destruction of Israel while putting out a statement endorsing the recent wave of terror.
With that news as the backdrop, it was reported by a Washington news outlet that President Obama is quietly working on Capitol Hill to restore taxpayer funding for UNESCO, a United Nations agency that has been accused of bias against Israel.
Obama’s State Department petitioned Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., a member of the Senate appropriations committee, to consider restoring funding to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, otherwise known as UNESCO, the Washington Free Beacon reported.
Taxpayer funding of UNESCO was banned in 2011 after it accepted Palestine as a member state, a move that violated U.S. law barring the funding of any U.N. group that admits Palestine as a full member nation prior to a peace treaty being signed.
The elimination of some $80 million in annual U.S. funding brought UNESCO to the verge of collapse and spawned even more questionable anti-Israel actions.
In its petition to Leahy, the State Department asks for a funding waiver in the 2016 appropriations bill that would allow the U.S. government to restart yearly payments of $76 million to UNESCO, the Free Beacon reported. Obama also wants authority to bail UNESCO out of nearly $160 million in debt.
Hamas celebrates future end of Israel
Coinciding with celebrations of the Hamas anniversary in the Gaza strip, the organization issued a statement on its English-language website, vowing “to continue our resistance and steadfastness until almighty Allah grants us triumph.”
Palestinians have killed 19 Israelis in the last three months by means of stabbings, shootings and vehicle rammings.
“Hamas vows to remain faithful to the liberation of Palestine and to keep its weapon directed at the Israeli occupation only,” the statement read.
Hamas is the Israeli chapter of the Muslim Brotherhood, which also controls many of the Muslim organizations in the United States, such as the Muslim Student Association, or MSA; the Council for American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR; and the Islamic Society of North America, or ISNA.
Hamas, which is designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department, took the opportunity of its 28th anniversary to emphasize its support of the recent wave of terror in Israel, which it referred to as the “Jerusalem intifada,” calling for its continuation. It also called for an end to security cooperation between the Palestinian Authority and Israel – including nixing the possibility of a revival in peace talks, the Jerusalem Post reported.
Hamas urged the “heroic resistance against Israeli soldiers and settlers” carry on in a fight to free the Palestinians from the “occupation” so that they may be granted “the right of return – a sacred, nonnegotiable individual and collective right.”
“Hamas will never recognize the Israeli occupation, and confirms that Palestine from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean is an Arab, Islamic country,” the statement read.
The Jerusalem post reported the statement reiterates the terrorist organization’s “firm stance that the State of Israel is not a recognizable one, and stomping on all hopes for peace.”
With Hamas in control of Gaza it would seem the West’s vision of a “two-state solution” to the Arab-Israel standoff remains nothing more than a pipe dream.
Hamas praised the recent wave of Palestinian terror attacks calling it the “Jerusalem intifada,” and encouraging others to engage in “heroic resistance against Israeli soldiers and settlers” in order to achieve “the right of return – a sacred, nonnegotiable individual and collective right.”
Hamas vows in the statement it will “never compromise even one inch or grain of its soil or holy sites.”
Hamas continues to be dedicated to the erosion of Jewish sovereignty in any form and does not distinguish between Israel proper and the Palestinian territories – viewing the entire land of Israel as an “occupation,” reported the Investigative Project on Terrorism.
“This rejectionist sentiment is at the core of Hamas’ ideology, obstructing any potential for a meaningful peace settlement with the Palestinians,” according to Steve Emerson of the IPT.
Reinforcing its support for terror, Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal glorified Palestinian terrorists involved in recent attacks against Israelis, calling for the path of “Jihad, sacrifice, and blood” as the only way Palestinians can achieve their objectives.
“The Palestinians have reached the realization that negotiations with the (Israelis) are useless … the so-called peace process is futile. There is no peace. Only the path of Jihad, sacrifice, and blood (will bear fruit),” said Meshaal in a Dec. 10 speech in Malaysia, translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) and reported by the Times of Israel.
“Weapons like Kalashnikovs or missiles are not at hand, but there are knives and cars with which to run over the enemies … By God, after the knives used by the people of the West Bank and Jerusalem, can anyone possibly have an excuse to abandon the path of jihad? Nobody can have such an excuse,” said the Hamas leader.
Meshaal met with government officials and politicians in Malaysia last week with a delegation of senior Hamas officials. Malaysia is a major component of Hamas’ international terrorist infrastructure, as the group actively recruits Palestinians studying at Malaysian universities to join Hamas for eventual terrorist attacks against Jews in Israel.
Two-thirds of the Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza support the current wave of terrorism targeting Israelis, according to a survey published Monday by the Palestinian Center or Policy and Survey Research.
