Underground Railroad
Emmanuella Ellis
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. teaching them to observe all that I commanded you…Matt 28:19-20.
A video of Harriet Tubman and her tremendous involvement in the underground railroad made me think.
After finding freedom, Harriet made it her duty to rescue others out of slavery, unable to bear seeing them suffer.
She sacrificed and risked her life to set people free from bondage. It was a burden she just couldn’t lay down, leading her to risk her own life.
She didn’t approach the issue as a choice but as a calling.
I believe it is our calling as Christians to have our own underground railroad.
We have been saved from slavery, sin and eternal damnation.
We simply cannot ignore others, having this new life and promising future.
We have tasted freedom by grace, and thus should be earnest in our desire to help others experience the same.
Imagine someone dragging us along in chains to do unpleasant things, leading us to hell.
Not too long ago we were there, and now we have this great opportunity, strengthened by the Most High to set the captives free.
We may not be evangelists like the known names, but we can play a role in our own way.
The underground railroad had its conductors like Harriett, but it was made up of many different people working together.
Whether we are the conductor or hidden in the background working to lead people out of bondage, we are all called to draw men to Christ.
It’s not a choice, but a duty and the Holy Spirit is there to help us. Choo-Choo let's get this train moving people.
