(WASHINGTONEXAMINER) — The U.S. national debt is creeping up again, after holding steady for the last few months thanks to the annual flood of individual and corporate tax receipts.

Total government debt hit a record $19.38 trillion on Thursday, up nearly $98 billion from the day before. It’s the first time it has ever exceeded $19.3 trillion.

The debt will soar higher still in the coming months, and is expected to approach $20 trillion by the time President Obama leaves office.

'Political' claims against Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore to be reviewed

The complaint against Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore for ordering state judges to adhere to the state law on marriage instead of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2015 decision will be reviewed by the Alabama Court of the Judiciary on Aug. 8.

The panel of judges set up to review judicial behavior, the Judicial Inquiry Commission, will consider his motion to dismiss the complaint.

The motion to dismiss argues Moore’s order was an administrative decision over which the review panel has no authority.

“We look forward to our day in court,” said Mat Staver, the chief counsel of Liberty Counsel, which is defending Moore along with Judicial Action Group.

“We have stated all along that the JIC lacked jurisdiction to issue the charges. They are baseless and should be dismissed so the chief justice can return to the work for which the people elected him,” Staver said.

The JIC said it will treat the chief justice’s motion to dismiss as a motion for summary judgment, so that the single hearing could dispose of the entire case.

The case, which shows the fight over “same-sex marriage” is far from over, was based on allegations from the Southern Poverty Law Center, which previous pulled stunts such as putting Dr. Ben Carson on its “Extremist Watch List.”

Further, the JIC had hired a former member of SPLC to carry out the prosecution of Moore, leading some to charge the JIC’s actions are improper and politically motivated.

The JIC case centers on Moore’s administrative order to judges in January regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that “same-sex marriage” is a constitutional right.

Staver has told the court the administrative order expressly said Moore “could not provide guidance to the probate judges because the matter was pending before the Alabama Supreme Court.”

“The JIC apparently wanted the chief justice to openly disobey the Alabama Supreme Court and to take matters into his own hands,” Staver said. “The JIC’s position is astounding and clearly wrong. It is no wonder why the JIC has no jurisdiction to render legal decisions. When it veers into this forbidden realm, it makes no sense.”

Staver contends the JIC “lacked jurisdiction to issue the charges because they all deal with a legal interpretation that is beyond its authority.”

“We have asked that these baseless charges be dismissed.”

After the U.S. Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision in June 2015, the Alabama Supreme Court invited the parties in the Alabama Policy Institute case “to address the effect of the Supreme Court’s decision on this court’s existing orders.” Those orders were that probate judges in the state should follow the state constitution and grant marriage licenses to man-and-woman couples.

In his January order, Moore stated: “I am not at liberty to provide any guidance to Alabama probate judges on the effect of Obergefell on the existing orders of the Alabama Supreme Court. That issue remains before the entire court which continues to deliberate on the matter.”

Later, that court issued a certificate of judgment regarding its 2015 orders.

The motion to dismiss explained: “The JIC’s complaint is premised upon the false proposition that in his administrative order … the chief justice defied the federal courts. The purpose of that order, however, was to instruct the probate judges about the status of the state-court injunction that had first been imposed upon them in March 2015 and that the June 29, 2015, order of the Alabama Supreme Court had continued in effect post-Obergefell pending further briefing,” court filings reveal.

“The sole purpose of the administrative order in question was to inform the probate judges that six months after the briefing order, the court still remained in deliberation on the matter and that, therefore, the API orders continued in effect pending ‘further decision.'”

The JIC, the motion said, couldn’t tolerate orderly procedures and instead “expressed its displeasure with such … by filing an ethical complaint against the chief justice for respecting the authority of the Alabama Supreme Court to modify its own orders and for recognizing that those orders remained in effect until so modified.”

The motion points out to the JIC that the Alabama Constitution “creates the JIC and specifies its limited jurisdiction and powers.”

“The nine-member JIC has ‘authority to conduct investigations’ concerning any Alabama judge and has the ability to file ethical charges.”

But all six of the JIC charges “arise from a single administrative order,” which is reviewable, according to Alabama Code, only “by the justices of the Alabama Supreme Court.”

The state has “no provision for any other body to review the validity of those orders.”

The actual charges, however, are part of a larger offensive by SPLC and JIC against conservative justices in Alabama.

WND reported that Justice Tom Parker has sued because SPLC filed a complaint with the JIC in an attempt to restrict his free speech, which is protected by the U.S. Constitution.
Moore, too, sued the JIC earlier over violations of his constitutional rights in its decision to file charges against him.

The cases suggest SPLC, which smeared Carson by putting him on its “thoroughly disgusting list of ‘haters,'” is working with the JIC to injure the conservatives, according the filings.

SPLC and the JIC are attempting “to intimidate, silence, and punish Justice Parker for his originalist judicial philosophy and protected speech,” the legal action explains.

“Justice Parker has a constitutional right to speak out on the case so long as he is not presently presiding over it. We know have seen a disturbing pattern of the JIC doing the bidding of the Southern Poverty Law Center and filing politically motivated charges against Alabama Supreme Court justices in order to remove them from the bench. It is time to put a stop to this free speech violation and the automatic removal provision,” said Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver.

Moore had sued in federal court, contending that the state process for handling, hearing, responding to and adjudicating complaints against him violates his constitutional rights.

He’s asking the federal court to derail the process that state officials are pursuing, seeking damages and immediate reinstatement.

Praise God that Chief Justice Moore of Alabama, questioned this Ruling in view of Alabama's State Constitution. The Supremely Evil Court's Ruling negated the 14 Amendment and should be Annulled on this basis. Each State should decide this Issue.

I think the United States of America is standing at a crossroads. We have never been in worse shape morally. Crime continues to explode. Families continue to splinter. The fabric of society continues to unravel.

What we need in America today, and for that matter, around the globe, is a far-reaching, heaven-sent revival.

Revival is a word that we bandy about a lot. We use it often in the church. Some churches will even announce their “revivals” ahead of time: “Revival – this week only. Monday through Friday. Starts at 7 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m.” They may be having some great meetings, but if it is a genuine revival, then it is not something they start or stop. A revival is something God supernaturally does.

As I’ve said before, a revival is when God’s people come back to life again. An awakening, on the other hand, is when a nation comes alive spiritually, sees its need for God and turns to him.

The word “revive” means to be restored to its original condition. It reminds me of people who like to restore old cars. They will find an older Corvette or Thunderbird or something else and then work to make the car look like it did originally. And they are sticklers about original paint and original parts.

In the same way, to be revived means to get back to God’s original design. Revival has been defined as “nothing more or less than a new beginning of obedience to God.” Revival is the spark, if you will, that starts the engine.

Any genuine revival that has ever happened in human history has brought about repentance in the lives of people, a change in the community and evangelism en masse.

We need a real revival – not just an emotional experience, not just a tingle down the backbone. We need to see God work because our nation needs it as never before. We don’t need some “new” thing; we need to get back to the very standards God has given us, and we need to practice them.

I like what the Old Testament prophet Jeremiah said: “Thus says the Lord: ‘Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; then you will find rest for your souls'” (Jeremiah 6:16 NKJV).

In the days of the early church, the one that Jesus started, the Christians turned their world upside down. 

The church of today, which is much larger than the first-century church was, has considerable resources and incredible technology to utilize. Yet it seems as though the world is turning the church upside down. 

Why? Because we need a revival. We need to be revived before God.

In the book of Revelation, this is what Jesus said to his own church:

“I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. 

Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen!” (Revelation 2:2–4 NIV)

It’s clear these Christians weren’t lazy. They were discerning. They were hardworking, persevering believers. They were not growing weary. They were out there making a difference. Jesus was saying, “That’s great. But we have a problem here. You have left your first love.”

In spite of all their activity, they had lost that first passion when Jesus was all in all. So Jesus gave them the three R’s of revival: 

Remember. Repent. Repeat. He said, “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works” (verse 5 NKJV, emphasis added).

I am not saying that works will save us, because that is not what the Bible teaches. The Bible tells us, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8–9 NIV).

Works don’t save a person, but they are good evidence that he or she is saved. If we have truly met the living Jesus, there will be works in our lives. As John the Baptist said, we need to bring forth “fruit in keeping with repentance” (Matthew 2:8 NIV), fruits that are consistent with a life that has truly come to know Christ.

Repentance means being willing to change. Repentance means being sorry enough to stop. The Bible says, “Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret” (2 Corinthians 7:10 NIV).

God has given us his prescription for the healing of a nation, and it includes repentance. He said, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV).

God is essentially saying, “My people need to take these steps. My people need to pray. My people need to turn from their wicked ways.”

The church needs a revival, but we must each ask ourselves this question individually: Am I personally revived? As we look at revivals in the Bible and in history, we see they often began with an individual.

While the church needs a revival, America needs an awakening. There are times in human history when God has intervened, when God, in his grace, has stepped in during a very dark time, a time when there was a moral breakdown, and brought about a spiritual awakening. It wasn’t orchestrated. 

It wasn’t a campaign planned by people. It was a work of God where he poured out his spirit. That is what we need in America today.

(OBSERVER) – An exclusive interview with a security source who was present at the unplanned meeting Monday night on a Phoenix tarmac between former President Bill Clinton and Attorney General Lorretta Lynch has shed additional light on an unusual summit that is embroiling the AG in charges of favoritism. 

As attorney general, Lynch heads the Department of Justice just as it is deciding whether to proceed with charges against Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton over her use of a private email server during her tenure as President Obama’s secretary of state.

The source has decades of experience providing security to government officials. The source spoke to the Observer for 20 minutes and answered follow-up questions via text message on the condition that no further details be revealed, including even gender, given the possibility of losing his or her job as an active overseer of security arrangements. 

This person was on-hand for the entirety of the meeting and some of its aftermath.

According to this source, whose credentials were checked and confirmed by the Observer with sources inside both the FBI and the United States Secret Service, the attorney general was caught completely off guard by the meeting and the source dismisses suggestions that have been raised alleging that she waited there to see Bill Clinton or accommodated his request to see him. 

In fact, it seems from this source that it was Bill Clinton who was maneuvering for face time with the attorney general, because his plane had been scheduled to leave before hers arrived.

Benedict's memoirs reveal he tried to 'break up this power group'

Former Pope Benedict, who resigned in 2013 – the first pontiff to do so in six decades – wrote in his memoirs that a “gay lobby” does indeed exist in the Vatican, and that it has actively tried to influence church decisions, reported an Italian newspaper that published a summary of his tome on Friday.

The Corriere della Sera daily, which acquired rights to “The Last Conversations,” also specified the pope said nobody pressured him to resign his church position. But his resignation did come amid some chaotic times in the church, ones that were chronicled in the now-famous, so-dubbed “Vatileaks” case, in which Benedict’s butler leaked some of the pope’s personal letters and several church documents that showed an internal power struggle at the Vatican.

Then, Italy’s press put forth the leaks came by way of a faction in the church that wanted to harm Benedict’s reputation and force him to resign.

The ex-pope, who’s been living since his resignation in a former convent located in the garden section of the Vatican, said the “gay lobby” he came to understand existed at the church included four or five people. He also said he was able to “break up this power group,” Reuters reported, citing the Italian newspaper.

The Catholic Church has a long-standing opposition to homosexuality, but gay rights’ activists have been saying for some time that many gays work for the Vatican. And according to the Corriere della Sera, some in the church suspect that this small band of homosexuals working for the Vatican have joined together to bolster their careers and help influence policy put forth by the pope and church.
