HOW AM I WORKING? - Robert Schaetzle
“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” Philippians 2:12 ESV
Sometimes I ask myself, “am I wanting God’s provision as my resource to find what I’m seeking?
Is the intent of my petition in prayer and the motivation of my actions, seeking God’s purpose and honor?”
As I daily work through my own salvation, I know for certain this is not to be defined as working ‘for’ my salvation.
That was done at the cross— a once for all work by Christ alone.
I have no part in my redemption.
There were many nights Jesus spent alone, all night on a hillside listening to the ‘Voice of the Father’s presence’ such as the night in the garden when Jesus sweat drops of blood as it were.
These to me are moments of ‘fear and trembling’ from our Lord, seeking to find strength from the Father for what lay before him.
There are seasons when we all will ask ourselves, “Is Jesus the cornerstone of my faith?”
In other words, do we want His presence first, most, and foremost, for the immediate concern before us?
Are the resources before us that we rest upon the result of God’s working and leading?
“I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!” Psalm 27:13-14 ESV
When I pray these verses, and it is often, I do so to calm my emotional excitement over any given matter on my heart.
As I’ve learned to dedicate each new day seeking the preeminence of His Voice to lead me, I feel less anxious that He is leading me instead of my feelings.
Father, as we work out our own salvation, we are demonstrating the measure of your faith given us. AMEN
