Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me.
All day long I put my hope in you.
Psalms 25:5 NLT
Life is full of unexpected trials and tests, crossroads of faith where we must choose either a response that comes from our fallen humanity, or a response that comes from faith in our all-sufficient God.
I faced such a situation recently.
I took my car for its annual state inspection, choosing a “pricier” mechanic since my regular garage couldn’t fit me in on time.
The final invoice contained a laundry list of repairs: new front tires and another exhaust manifold–necessary to pass inspection–and several other recommended repairs.
Had I agreed to them all, three-quarters of my modest bank account would have been gone.
I realized I could choose to trust God and praise him through this challenge, or I could grumble and succumb to fear and discouragement as I too often do.
So, since I didn’t want to be miserable, and since I wanted to honor God, I chose to praise and trust.
God then prompted me to text my nephew, an excellent mechanic, who quickly texted back and asked me to call him.
We arranged for me to buy the new tires at a dealer he knew well; my nephew would then replace the exhaust manifold.
I saved myself hundreds of dollars by trusting the Lord and following his lead.
God loves us and wants the best for us.
His resources are unlimited and he alone can show us the right path to take.
So, when we reach a crossroads of faith whether major or minor, there are only two ways to choose from: unbelief and negativity that lead to a dead end (Joshua 24:15, Jeremiah 6:16), or grateful trust and obedience that lead to life and peace (Jeremiah 17:7-8, Proverbs 3:3-5).
The latter choice is the greatest act of worship we can offer God.
PRAYER: God, help me to choose your way in my tests and trials. You know best and you can meet my every need. AMEN
