“The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.” (Nahum 1:7 KJV)
Strongholds can be either positive or negative.
A stronghold is something that has a grasp on you; something that can control or regulate your emotions, thoughts, and willpower.
Faith is an example of a positive stronghold.
An individual with great faith will have positive thoughts of hope for a bright future compared to a person who is operating under the negative stronghold of fear.
A fearful person will have negative thoughts of defeat and failure, and a loss of hope for a brighter future.
Born again Christians need to cultivate positive strongholds in their lives to keep negative strongholds from taking root in their hearts and minds.
We must let God’s word be a stronghold in our lives as a means of protection from the enemy.
We must let God’s presence be a stronghold in our lives to guard against the negative stronghold of loneliness.
We must let God’s love and mercy be a stronghold in our lives to protect us against the unwanted strongholds of depression and negative self-talk.
Our faith in God is a stronghold in our lives protecting us from fear, doubt, worry, anxiety and confusion, which are all negative strongholds. Let God’s compassion be a stronghold reigning in our lives protecting us from self-harm and destruction.
Paul’s compassion toward the keeper of the prison in Acts 16 kept the keeper of the prison from harming himself.
“But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here,” (Acts 16: 28 KJV).
Positive strongholds are a means of protection.
David hid in strongholds when King Saul kept trying to kill him.
God protected David in these strongholds.
“And David abode in the wilderness in strongholds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him everyday, but God delivered him not into his hand,” (I Samuel 23: 14 KJV).
Lord, please be a good and positive stronghold in my life.
Help me cultivate positive strongholds of faith, love, hope, and peace in my life, casting out the negative strongholds of fear, anxiety, and depression.
