We are told repeatedly that our God is the God of a thousand chances... we sing about not being plucked from His hand... we hear about our redemption and eternal life for ALL who BELIEVE every week...
We are never told, though, that our disobedience to the Law IS sin, and that our continued willful sin is a mockery of God which Scripture tells us not to do;
that Scripture equates our disobedience with unbelief;
that grace is for mistakes in forward motion -NOT a license for neglect.
We are lulled into a false sense of security, believing that as long as we are a fan of Jesus then we are good to go.
Never mind the powerful ministry of the folks in Matthew 7:22 - driving out demons and performing miracles, and then His own response to them in verse 23 -
'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'
Why did He reject them?!
These weren't what we call "unrepentant, unbelieving sinners"!
They were doing good things! In His Name!!
Back up to verse 21 - "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."
Simply identifying Him as Lord is not sufficient.
Even the demons do that, but they tremble.
Out of HIS own mouth!
They are rejected by Him for not doing the will of the Father... for not keeping His law.
From the Father's perspective that certainly identifies them as "unrepentant, unbelieving sinners."
They "keep all the commands in red" but I guess these words don't qualify as instruction...??
There will be an incredible multitude of people facing the biggest shock of their lives when the time finally comes and they fully expect to hear "well done, my good and faithful servant" but instead, they hear "depart from me, I never knew you, worker of lawlessness."
