- MorningStar Rising, Part 1
There is no better time in history to be alive than now! I would not trade places with any generation. We are on the verge of the release of God’s glory we have been talking about for years. In fact, I believe with all my heart the date has been set.
I want to share about the morning star rising. We often see the morning star rise in the sky just before the sun comes up for a new day. Now we have come to the last days, and we are waiting for Jesus, the Morning Star, to return.
I have found only two titles in all of Scripture that Jesus and Lucifer (Satan) share: the morning star and the lion. One deserves these titles; the other is a counterfeit.
Revelation 5:5 says Jesus is “the Lion of the tribe of Judah.” In contrast, I Peter 5:8 says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” The strength of the Lion of the tribe of Judah is His fierce love for us, but the devil is only fierce in his hate. Satan, the counterfeit, wanted to take that title because it was reserved for Jesus, the Lion of the tribe of Judah.
The other title Satan wanted to claim is “morning star.” When some people first hear of MorningStar Ministries, those who are unlearned in Scripture say, “Isn’t that Lucifer's name?” No. The devil is just a counterfeit who has tried to take that name.
Jesus is the true Morning Star. Revelation 22:16 says, “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”
Since Satan has tried to counterfeit these two titles of the Lord, these must be two titles Satan is bothered by the most. Why? Because one word that sums up morning star is “hope,” and people need hope in this dark world.
If you study astronomy, then you know that what is often referred to as the morning star is actually the planet Venus. Though it’s a planet, it looks like the brightest star. When sailors of old saw it, they knew morning was coming. Just before dawn, the morning star would appear in the sky. It shines the brightest when it’s the darkest, just before dawn. It means night is almost over.
Maybe you’re discouraged, frustrated, or feel that life is beating you up. “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning” (see Psalm 30:5). We are seeing some gross darkness in our culture and world right now, so this is the opportune time for the Morning Star to rise in our hearts, just before the new day of the Lord comes. The morning star we see in the sky rises while it’s still dark, then the sun rises. It’s a sign of hope that dawn is about to come.
Jesus said in Revelation 22:16, “I am the Bright and Morning Star.” This is in the last chapter of the last book of the New Testament, but the title “morning star” is also found in the oldest book of the Bible, Job. When God spoke to Job, He described the earth’s creation to him:
“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” (Job 38:4-7)
The “morning stars” mentioned here are angels. Job 38 gives us a beautiful picture of angels celebrating God’s creation. Yet, one star was not happy. Lucifer despised God’s creation, wanted to take it over, and has been trying ever since. Still, we have hope that the true Morning Star, Jesus, will return.
