'Gender-affirming' doctor admits 'regret' among kids who transitioned

AMA urging DOJ to probe 'disinformation' against surgeries for minors

A "gender affirming" pediatrician acknowledged during a virtual meeting of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health that young people lack the capacity to make decisions regarding "transitioning" and many later regret having gone through the process.

The investigative group Project Veritas obtained video of Dr. Daniel Metzger, a pediatric endocrinologist at British Columbia Children's Hospital in Canada, speaking frankly about his concerns.

"We try to talk about [transgenderism], but most of the kids are nowhere in any kind of brain space to talk about it really – in a serious way," he said. "That's always bothered me. But, you know, we still want the kids to be happy."

Metzger cited Dutch researchers at a meeting of the Pediatric Endocrinology Society who "gave some data about young adults who have transitioned and have reproductive regret."

"Like, regret, and it's there, and I don't think any of that surprises us," he said.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association and the Children's Hospital Association called on U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate people who point out the potential harm of the transgender surgery industry and express concerns such as those of Metzger.

'Campaigns of disinformation'
The letter to Garland asks the Justice Department to take "swift action to investigate and prosecute" individuals they allege are "increasing threats of violence" against hospitals and physicians for "providing evidence-based gender-affirming care."

The groups also are urging Twitter, TikTok and Meta "to do more to prevent coordinated campaigns of disinformation" and "take bolder action when false information is shared about specific institutions and physicians."

"From Boston to Akron to Nashville to Seattle, children's hospitals, academic health systems, and physicians are being targeted and threatened for providing evidence-based health care," the medical associations state.

They charge that the "attacks are rooted in an intentional campaign of disinformation, where a few high-profile users on social media share false and misleading information targeting individual physicians and hospitals, resulting in a rapid escalation of threats, harassment, and disruption of care across multiple jurisdictions."

Seattle Children's Hospital, on its website, boasts of being "a leader in the region for gender-affirming medical care," providing services for children ages 9 to 16.

The prominent hospital's "services" include "puberty blockers," "gender-affirming hormones" and "gender-affirming surgery."

The medical groups said in a statement to media they "are dedicated to the health and well-being of all children and adolescents."

"We are committed to the full spectrum of patient care – from prevention to critical care," they said. "We stand with the physicians, nurses, mental health specialists, and other health care professionals who provide evidence-based health care, including gender-affirming care, to children and adolescents."

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, called on members of the AMA to resign and demand a refund of their dues.

"Outrageous," he wrote on Twitter. "The Biden DOJ is thoroughly corrupt & weaponized to attack their political enemies. They are in bed with Big Tech billionaires in trying to silence you.
