Open Eyes to See God's Goodness
Cheryl Weber
Psalms 27:13-14 says, "Yet I am confident I will see the Lord's goodness while I am here in the land of the living. Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord" (NLT).
I've hung onto these verses through the rough times of 2020 and I continue to claim them as truth when I feel dubious or fearful.
I used to only apply these words to the future.
“Someday, God will bring about good and amazing things.”
“Someday, we will see his kingdom come and his will be done like never before in our nation and the world.”
Recently, I saw this verse in a different light.
Recently, I saw this verse in a different light.
We are often like Peter, who, as he walked across the water toward Jesus, took his eyes off the Master and saw only the chaotic waves around him.
Likewise, we tend to take our focus off the Lord and look only at the negative and sometimes frightening aspects of our circumstances.
When we do, we begin to sink into our own ocean of discouragement, fear, or bitterness.
Instead, we can grow in our faith by determining to trust God, asking him to open our eyes to his goodness and care for us.
Instead, we can grow in our faith by determining to trust God, asking him to open our eyes to his goodness and care for us.
We can gain his perspective for our trials and expect him to do mighty things on our behalf now.
As a result, we become courageous and confident.
We wait patiently for him, knowing he is always working, always moving, always caring and that even though we may not see a breakthrough yet, he will bring it.
As we see his goodness in the present, we can be certain he will remain able and faithful in the future no matter how dark or impossible our circumstances.
Lord, thank you that you are the God of the past, the present, and the future. No situation is too difficult for you to meet us in and show us Your goodness. Amen
