Abundant Life
Marlene Custer
The Gospel of John records Jesus saying,
“...I am come that they may have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
Yet, I see many Christians living far from a joyful, fulfilled life.
Many are anxious and practically paralyzed by fear.
A sinister virus is rampant, and many fear that the antidote could be worse than the disease.
It has put thousands of jobs in jeopardy and death seems closer than ever.
Yet, I believe Jesus’ words are as true today as when He spoke to the crowds long ago.
He admonished us not to worry about clothes, food, and all the things we tend to worry about.
Then He challenged us,
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
In the same sermon, He pointed out that no amount of worrying can add a single hour to our life.
Few relish the thought of death.
However, in Psalm 23:4, David confidently proclaims,
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me...”. What comfort!
John’s Gospel records Jesus’ words
“...He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, ... is passed from death unto life.”
If you feel yourself slipping into despair, call out to God.
Spend time reading his Word, pray the Psalms, listen to Christian music, and I believe He will give you the peace and abundant life you are seeking.
“Jesus, it is so hard not to worry. Please help me to seek to know you better. Help me to trust your Word.”
