Psalm 23
Lorraine Taylor
"Jesus is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Jesus makes me lie down in green pastures: Jesus leads me beside the still waters.
Jesus restores my soul:
Jesus leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yes, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for Jesus is with me;
Jesus' rod and his staff they comfort me.
Jesus prepares a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
Jesus anoints my head with oil; my cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of my Lord Jesus forever."
When the pressures of life find us inadequate, and we feel overwhelmed, we can trust in our Lord who longs to shepherd us through all of life's hard 'stuff.'
Our Lord Jesus is entirely, sufficiently-able, and adequate to comfort and provide hope in the valleys and the mountain tops.
Jesus, our Good Shepherd, is not distant but is intimately near to each one and joins with us in every season of uncertainty that stretches beyond our capacity to endure.
When the clouds of suffering darken the horizon, and we become out of balance, we can always turn our attention to the Lord, who longs to shepherd us in all places.
We can enter the eye of His peace within the swirling storm, in the quiet center of our Father's heart.
In this sacred, safe harbor, we catch a glimpse of our Lord's light - his sanctuary of love that quiets and stills.
His light and hope glimmers through the haze and mist where we find a Lord whose love pursues and caringly shepherds his beloved dear ones.
In the most challenging seasons and the shadows of life and death, he lays before us a glorious feast and invites us to come and feed our soul from the manna of his restored peace and refreshing mercy.
Jesus tenderly leads us in the tough seasons of adversity, into the wide-open meadowlands where he protects and sustains by His abiding-abounding-limitless grace - offering spirit-life for our body, soul, and spirit.
