UK: GOVERNMENT PROPOSES BAN ON TRANS PROCEDURES FOR CHILDREN

The British government is proposing a complete ban on transgender medical procedures for children, and American lawmakers would be "wise" to follow that example, contends a leading family advocate.

Peter Sprigg, senior fellow for policy studies for the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C., wrote that British officials don't want to put young people "on a torturous and unnecessary path that is permanent and life-changing."

"When state legislators in the U.S. are able to convene again," he wrote, "they would be wise to follow the British example and prohibit 'torturous and unecessary' gender transition medical procedures for minors."

A key government official in the United Kingdom has indicated the government could recommended a complete ban on transgender medical procedures for children, and a commentary from the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C., says American lawmakers would be "wise" to follow that example.
