Protecting Our Mind
Karen Pourbabaee
“But since we are of the day, let us be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love and the helmet that is hope for salvation.” 1 Thessalonians 5:8 NAB
The spiritual walk of many Christians is hindered by various maladies of the mind, by a thought life under attack.
There’s a real battle for the mind.
The devil continually tries to reach us and impede us through our mind.
The Ephesians 6 spiritual armor includes the helmet as one of the defensive weapons provided. (See Ephesians 6:10-18 NAB)
The helmet of hope is designed to protect the mind, covering the head, which is associated with the thought life.
What is hope?
Some define it as a confidant, mental expectation of good.
It’s more than just being an optimist.
Hope has to have a foundation to sustain us in the waiting time.
Hope is also described as “an anchor of the soul, sure and firm.” (Hebrews 6:19 NAB)
In addition, hope is referred to as a refuge in Hebrews 6:18.
So where do we obtain this hope?
Faith is the foundation that produces hope.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13 NAB)
Now, how do we create faith?
“Thus faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17 NAB)
Your faith comes from God’s Word.
Any hope outside His Word is false hope.
You can’t hold onto it.
So, renew your mind with God’s Word and believe.
This faith will produce hope, a place of refuge, an anchor for your soul.
Hope is the force that will protect your mind.
