A Quiet Saturday
Ken Ebright
“Look at the birds in the air. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, but your heavenly Father feeds them. And you know that you are worth much more than the birds. Matthew 6:26” (NCV)
On a typical Saturday, I would be in a hurry to read my morning devotion and head out to my men’s Bible study group.
This Saturday was different since everything is shut down due to the coronavirus scare, including my Bible study.
Things have changed so quickly over these past few weeks.
I go to the grocery store, the meat section is bare, and I have a hard time finding milk and eggs.
People are wearing masks everywhere, and we have to stay six feet away apart.
What’s more, my work is shutting down for now.
Thankfully, I am still getting paid, but for how much longer?
Can you see why one could get worried if we focus too much on our circumstances?
This Saturday morning, I decided to focus on God’s word and promises, reading my morning devotions outside.
It was a peaceful morning except for the birds chirping.
Hearing them made me think of the verse in Matthew.
The birds do not worry about disease, death, food, long grocery lines, or money to buy food.
But God still provides for them.
As someone who tends to worry, this has been a scary time.
I need to remind myself often that I need not fear because the Lord takes care of me.
I am God’s workmanship, worth much more than the birds of the air.
Jesus wants us to realize that worry never accomplishes anything good.
Our worry does not motivate God to take care of us. He takes care of us because He loves us.
So why would we waste our time in worry?
He will never leave us or forsake us, and He will get us through this hard time.
Do you trust in Jesus? If not, maybe today is the day you should start.
