To pursue something that Satan hates above all else is brave. To seek something millions of lukewarm Christians deem impossible is the essence of bravery.
Why do they choose to be on this dangerous path? What are they chasing? What started them on this mad pursuit?
They were ruined when they read or heard about something God did in history and they can’t shake the conviction, passion and electric expectation for God to do it again.
They seek a true revival—a moral awakening—a reformation on their nation.
Maybe you are one of them. You walk around with an unearthly frustration. You hear the cry of some wonderful, invisible event that wants to be born. Other Christians think you are odd or in need of help.
Let’s face it! The thought of a nationwide penetration of righteousness, of a true revival, seems so unreal. We can’t even remember the last time the roar of God was heard in the land.
We can’t remember the times in American history when mayors or major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Denver, and Portland proclaimed revival, and closed city offices and business to go to churches and pray.
The sheer magnitude of what past revivalists report is so amazing it leaves many in stunned disbelief. How could God overtake entire cities in America and reverse the course of our nation?
Many who don’t believe it, or don’t want to believe it, dismiss these historical facts as exaggeration.
They look at the evil of our time and the hard hearts of our generation. They see the rampant lawlessness.
They witness the intense hatred toward godliness.
They also see the vicious storm that most churches are facing right now.
They see the riots, demonstrations, perversion, and wonder how could God ever work in America again?
I am writing this to you to ask you to have a special kind of courage.
I want you to begin praying in a way you never thought possible.
I want you to join me in confessing that God can do what He did in the past and I want you to demonstrate that you believe it by making room for something big to happen.
I want to see in you the kind of courage that says “it must happen, it will happen and it will not stop.”
First, confess that revival has come before.
That those amazing awakenings did happen. Psalm 44: 1 We have heard with our ears, O God, Our fathers have told us, The deeds You did in their days, In days of old: 2 You drove out the nations with Your hand, But them You planted; You afflicted the peoples, and cast them out. 3 For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword, Nor did their own arm save them; But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance, because You favored them.”
Celebrate the awesome history of revivals and admit that it was only God that made America great.
Go ahead and ask for a new act of God on America. Habakkuk 3:2 “O Lord, I have heard Your speech and was afraid; O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy.”
And finally, sign up for danger: When King Nebuchadnezzar commanded the wise men of Babylon tell him his nightmare and its meaning in order stay alive, Daniel endangered himself. Now he was in the cross hairs because the desperate king was expecting Daniel to bring an answer. Christians must offer themselves for revival—to interpret the nightmare of this generation
Daniel 2:16 “So Daniel went in and asked the king to give him time, that he might tell the king the interpretation. 17 Then Daniel went to his house, and made the decision known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions, 18 that they might seek mercies from the God of heaven concerning this secret, so that Daniel and his companions might not perish with the rest of them wisemen of Babylon.”
Daniel hung his life on the belief that God would have mercy on him and his friends. Now fast forward to you today. You must not see revival as a nice thing or even a desired thing but the only thing.
Nothing will save America now but revival.
Your quest for awakening must be so irrevocable that you act as if it is already here.
