The Cane Ridge revival of 1800 was a camp meeting in rural Kentucky, that experienced a mighty move of the Spirit. It was estimated that 20,000 would be in a single meeting, way before any kind of social media advertisement. What started as a two week of meetings, continued for one whole year. It was reported that some people showed up at the meetings because their horses galloped by the Spirit to the camp meeting.
It was the Cain Ridge Camp meeting where the term "camp meeting" came from.
America's first great camp meeting began by a group of Presbyterian ministers that got together to pray. They felt God was going to do a special thing. After a season of great and fervent prayer with these group of preachers they formed a meeting with a little advertisement. They began to preach, their main message was on repentance. Great power came upon the preachers that preached. The people were moved to tears and bitter and loud crying for mercy. Their week of meetings because of the power and the people repeating, word got out and it lasted for one whole year.
