DiGenova: Mueller's 'Investigation Is a Complete Failure,' 'No Evidence' of Collusion
Commenting on Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, former federal prosecutor Joe diGenova said it is "a complete failure" because there is "absolutely no evidence" that Russians colluded with the Trump 2016 presidential campaign.
DiGenova added that Mueller is now trying to indict peripheral figures for lying about other issues in order to -- as an excuse -- claim he could have caught Trump but for these people who supposedly lied.
"This is all about failure," said diGenova, a dog and pony show to justify two years of investigatory failure.
"The thing to me that's fascinating is, all of a sudden, the entire investigation by Mueller is focusing on people who are lying," said diGenova on the Nov. 28 edition of the Ingraham Angle.
"That's what it's always been about.
But now it's really about lying, with [Roger] Stone and [Jerome] Corsi and [Michael] Flynn and everybody."
"Why is that happening?" he said.
"The answer is very simple.
The original purpose of the investigation was Russian collusion.
That has failed miserably.
There's no evidence of it.
So what is he doing now?"
"He's charging people with lying so that he can say in his report, 'I would have proved collusion but all these people lied and prevented me from doing it,'" said diGenova.
"This is the new narrative of Mueller."
"He's not of course mouthing it," said diGenova, "but his actions prove conclusively that his new narrative is if these people hadn't lied to me, I would have been able to prove collusion.
This is the new Russian collusion theme now.
This is what he's going to do.
That's going to be what the report is going to be about."
Later in the discussion, diGenova commented, "This is all about failure. This investigation is a complete failure."
"The purpose was to investigate a conspiracy between the Trump campaign or the president and the Russians," said diGenova.
"There is absolutely no evidence of that in any of the cases that he has brought.
That is why he is now focusing on these side characters to accuse them of lying or perjury because his narrative is going to be 'I couldn't prove collusion because they wouldn't let me.'"
"This is where we are," said diGenova.
"This is the pathetic state of Mueller's handling of this.
This is an embarrassment. … I know what [the final report is] going to say -- they wouldn't let me do my job."
Joe diGenova is the founding partner of diGenova & Toensing, LLC, in Washington, D.C. The law firm "represents individuals, corporations and other entities before the Federal courts, Congress, and U.S. cabinet departments and agencies on criminal, civil, administrative and investigative matters."
DiGenova was a U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. He also served as a special counsel investigating the Teamsters, and as chief counsel and staff director of the Senate Rules Committee and counsel to the Senate Judiciary, Governmental Affairs and Select Intelligence Committees.
