God Is All About Love?
Harriett Ford
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3: 9).
A friend says God is all about love, and all people are embraced by Him even if they choose to ignore His warning against dangerous lifestyles.
Suppose your daughter and son were going to a celebration at a nearby lake. You gave them a warning. “Enjoy all the fun, kids, but stay out of the water. It’s contaminated with a deadly virus.”
Suppose they arrived and saw people in the water. One of the swimmers said, “Come on in. The water’s fine.” They decided their dad didn’t really know what he was talking about, and they also went into the water.
Later they were admitted to the hospital where they saw the same swimmers in critical condition. Their recovery was uncertain.
You didn’t want that to happen because you love your children so much. They chose to ignore your word and reaped painful consequences.
God is the same. The reason He hates sin so much is because it separates us from Him. He wants to have an intimate relationship with each of us. When we ignore His warning, we disrespect His word. We decide for ourselves what is right and wrong. That hurts the Father of spirits because He knows it will eventually destroy us.
He made a way of escape for disobedient children, but if they continue to ignore His Word, he cannot help them.
Make no mistake. Sin does not go unpunished. Thankfully, there is a remedy in Jesus, but without Him, there is only destruction. Eternal destruction (2 Pet. 3: 9).
