GOP CHANGES RULES TO PUSH THROUGH NOMINEES AFTER DEM BOYCOTT

Senate panel votes emergency approvals of Price at HHS, Mnuchin for Treasury

(USA TODAY) Using emergency action to break a political logjam, Republicans on the Senate Committee on Finance Wednesday voted to approve President Trump’s nominations of Steven Mnuchin as Treasury secretary and Rep. Tom Price as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Republicans sent the nominations to the Senate floor for expected final approvals with no Democrats present for the vote.

The action came after Democrats stalled Tuesday’s scheduled vote on the nominations by refusing to attend unless they got answers to questions demanding additional financial information from Mnuchin, a multi-millionaire hedge fund manager and movie industry financier, and Price, an orthopedic surgeon and GOP House member from Georgia.
