Violence, provocations continue against president-elect nationwide

The angry reaction to Donald Trump’s presidential election victory is not letting up, with continued street protests as well as incidents of violence and provocation across the nation.

In downtown Atlanta, a socialist group projected an image of the words “F— Trump” on the side of the Crowne Plaza Hotel, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The paper said that for about 30 minutes Sunday night, drivers on West Peachtree Street saw the image projected by the Metro Atlanta Democratic Socialists of America.

The chairman of the group, Milt Tambor, said Tuesday he’s seen an increase in membership since the vulgar message began circulating on social media.

“We’ve got people upset and angry with the election,” Tambor told the Atlanta paper.

One conservative commentator thinks many angry “left-wing pundits privately hope someone kills Donald Trump.”

Erick Erickson, the founder of the Red State blog and editor of The Resurgent, wrote in a commentary Wednesday that leftists are engaging in “incendiary rhetoric” against Trump, charging he’s ushering in an age of “Nazism, fascism, racism, homophobia” to the point that “either they really are not grounded in reality or they are hoping to so scare people about Trump that someone will engage in violence.”

“I suspect it is the latter and too few of them are willing to admit it,” he said. “These pundits are actively amping up fear, hoping someone will do what they are not brave enough to do.”

Reid: Trump is sparking ‘hate crimes’

Departing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, however, contends it’s Trump who is sparking “hate crimes,” Fox News reported.

On the Senate floor Tuesday, Reid said Trump has made sexual assault a “laughing matter” and called on him to revoke the appointment of top White House adviser Steve Bannon, whom Reid called a “champion of white supremacists.”

“It’s not normal for the KKK to celebrate the election of a president who is their champion,” Reid said.

“The man who lost the election by 2 million votes is now president,” Reid said. “The election has sparked a wave of hate crimes across America. … Rescind the appointment of Steve Bannon. Don’t do it. I say to Donald Trump, ‘Take responsibility, rise to the dignity of the office instead of hiding behind your Twitter account, and show Americans that racism and bigotry have no place in America.’”

Bannon has been accused of being an anti-Semite and a “white supremacist” by the likes of Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and others, with no evidence. To the contrary, Joel Pollack, an Orthodox Jew and former colleague at Breitbart News, where Bannon served as executive chairman before becoming CEO of the Trump campaign, wrote that he can “say, without hesitation, that Steve is a friend of the Jewish people and a defender of Israel, as well as being a passionate American patriot and a great leader” and “a tireless, disciplined manager who demands excellence – and who seeks talent regardless of distinctions of race, gender, religion, sexuality, or any other kind.”

Meanwhile, a Muslim teacher is Georgia is standing by her claim that she was told to hang herself, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Mairiah Teli, a teacher at Dacula High in Georgia’s Gwinnett County, said in a post on her Facebook account Friday that she received an anonymous letter last week urging her to hang herself with her headscarf.

A Muslim teacher in Georgia claimed she received a threatening note.

‘They said I took a wrong turn’

She acknowledged in another Facebook post late Monday that some have suggested in social media posts that she wrote the letter, citing a Louisiana woman who falsely claimed she was attacked and had her hijab ripped off by two men, one of them wearing a white Donald Trump hat.

In Meriden, Connecticut, two men were arrested after they allegedly attacked a man who was waving an American flag and holding a Trump election sign on Saturday, police said, the local NBC television affiliate reported..

The victim claimed the two men gave him the finger and he responded “same to you,” just before the attack began.

Anthony Hobdy and Wilson Echevarria Mercado were arrested for allegedly attacking a Donald Trump supporter in Connecticut.

In Boston, a group of men allegedly attacked a man outside a bar because he supported Trump, WHDH-TV in Boston reported.

Cameron Massie, 21, said he was at a bar just before 2 a.m. explaining what he liked about Trump and what he did not like about Hillary Clinton when a nearby group that was listening butted in.

“One of the guys that overheard started yelling at me I’m a racist, calling my mom names,” said Massie. “They said I took a wrong turn. ‘You know, you’re in Massachusetts.’”

Massie told the Boston station he was punched in the back of the head and then his face, and the arm of his jacket was also almost torn off. He suffered a fractured eye socket, a broken nose and a busted lip.

“I think everyone should just get along. We’re a nation,” said Massie. “If you don’t like the president, come together as a people. I don’t think violence is the answer.”

In Austin, Texas, six members of a local communist group, Red Guards Austin, were arrested for assaulting pro-Trump members in a protest Sunday, according to police, local KEYE-TV reported.

In an earlier interview, Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo asked people to protest peacefully and openly, without covering their faces.

“If you really want to stand for your position and views, take those masks off,” said Chief Acevedo. “Stop covering your face. Because historically, the only people who cover their face are people who are agitators and people that at some point are really anarchists.”

In Atlanta, a man who jokingly said he had voted for Trump was shot dead, local WSB-TV reported.

Mitchell Mormon Jr., 34, was leaving a bar at about 3 a.m. when he confronted a man who allegedly said something disrespectful to Mormon’s date, Shaunita Walker. When Walker told Mormon what happened, he confronted the man and jokingly told the shooter he had voted for Trump.

The men continued arguing, and then the alleged shooter left and came back with a gun, WSB reported. Walker said she doesn’t think the Trump comment led to the shooting and that the alleged shooter was looking for trouble.
