BETWEEN THE LINES
TRUMP AND JESUS
Exclusive: Joseph Farah hopes new president will have 'a prayerful relationship' with God
Let me begin by saying I plan to vote enthusiastically for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton in November.
It’s not a close call.
There’s no hesitancy on my part.
In fact, I would say this is the most important election and the clearest choice I have faced as a voter since 1984 when Ronald Reagan faced Walter Mondale. Most Americans agreed with me then, and I believe most Americans agree with me now. (Ronald Reagan won 49 states – all except Minnesota, Mondale’s home state. Yes, that includes California and New York!)
So I am 100 percent behind Trump for president in 2016.
With that said, as a Christian, I wish Trump would spend some time between now and Election Day getting to understand Jesus and what He so clearly requires of us from the Gospels.
In a recent interview with Cal Thomas, Trump was asked: “Who do you say Jesus is?”
Trump said: “Jesus to me is somebody I can think about for security and confidence. Somebody I can revere in terms of bravery and in terms of courage and, because I consider the Christian religion so important, somebody I can totally rely on in my own mind.”
Thomas noted, “You have said you never felt the need to ask for God’s forgiveness, and yet repentance for one’s sins is a precondition to salvation.”
“I will be asking for forgiveness,” Trump said, “but hopefully I won’t have to be asking for much forgiveness.”
He then went on: “As you know, I am Presbyterian and Protestant. I’ve had great relationships and developed even greater relationships with ministers. We have tremendous support from the clergy. I think I will be doing very well during the election with evangelicals and with Christians.”
Here’s what’s lacking from this response: Jesus requires repentance from all of us. That is the absolute key to salvation. It’s not, however, all He requires. He also expects obedience – for us to lay down our lives and our earthly desires and to live for Him, through Him.
It’s a serious commitment – a lifelong commitment. It doesn’t matter if you are a Protestant, a Catholic, a Jew. What counts is our relationship with Jesus – not just what we think of Him. Does He come first in our lives? Is He our Savior? Is He our ransom from death, which we all deserve for our sinful lives?
I would like our future president to be standing on that firm foundation when He takes the oath of office Jan. 20. The position he will be assuming is challenging enough even for someone standing on that rock.
Why is it important?
It’s important for anyone who hopes for eternal life.
It’s important for a president because a prayerful relationship with Jesus and the Holy Spirit will give him strength, courage and wisdom to make the right decisions.
That is my prayer for Donald Trump and everyone reading this column today. It would even be my prayer for Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
On the positive side, Trump seems to have his head on straight with regard to the great genocide taking place in the Middle East today against Christian believers.
“In the Middle East – and this is prior to the migration – you had almost no chance of coming into the United States,” he told Thomas. “Christians from Syria, of which there were many, many of their heads … chopped off. If you were a Muslim from Syria, it was one of the easiest places to come in (to the U.S.). I thought that was deplorable. I’m going to treat my religion, which is Christian, with great respect and care.”
If for no other reason than Trump’s clear-eyed view of this monumental injustice, and indeed there are many more, the decision to vote for Trump is an easy one, a clear one, a self-evident one for all believers.

Trump is not an Anti-Chrsit as is Hillary. There is Hope for Trump. But it is God Almighty who will Determine who will become President and what that President will do once in Office. This is a God Ordained TEST for the Nation and for Christians.
