Is the US Doomed? Theologian Tackles a Major Biblical End-Times Question You've Never Considered

With the end times dominating so many headlines of late both before and after a failed Sept. 23 doomsday prediction, there are a plethora of eschatological questions emerging over what the Bible really says about the end of days.

Among them: Is America part of biblical prophecy? This is a question that author Jeff Kinley tackles in his new book, The End of America? as he explores what various theologians have to say about the matter.

Of course, the U.S. isn't mentioned by name in the biblical Scriptures, leaving the door open to an array of debate about what role, if any, America plays in end times theology.

"It's a very relevant question that we ask, because there are theologians who believe that America is mentioned in Scripture," Kinley recently told "The Billy Hallowell Podcast." 

"Obviously not by the name of America, but I outline in the book ... six views of popular theologians who believe that America is identified in Scripture, specifically as it relates to the end times."

In the end, while much is uncertain, Kinley said that there are two facts people can focus in on. 

First, he spoke of Israel's founding as a nation in 1948—something that many people believe to be prophetic in nature.

"We were a part of that as Americans, as a country rather," he said. 

"We sort of acted like a midwife in helping Israel be born and we have supported Israel through that. In fact, [we've] been Israel's greatest ally from that time, until now. In that sense, we've had a role in the end times."

Kinley also noted that the U.S. has "really pioneered the modern world expansion of the gospel" like no other country, explaining how America has taken that message to the globe.

"As we are living in these last days, I think America has had that role," he said. "The question then becomes, what will happen to America and what will America look like when we actually reach the days of Revelation?"

Kinley attempts to answer these questions by providing potential scenarios in The End of America?

As for the current state of the country, he said that the U.S. is "in crisis right now" and is "at a critical state of decline," tackling in his book the reasons why he believes this is the case, including the fact that the proportion of "nones"—those unaffiliated with a faith—has grown in recent years.

"I think we're just, we're thinking less of God," he said. "We're becoming much more secularistic in our approach to things and more religiously unaffiliated as ever before. I think there's a decline in spirituality."

In the end, though, Kinley said that he believes it's possible to turn things around in America via her citizens.

"Can America be saved? 

My answer to that is, I'm not sure that America as the country will or will not be saved in the end, but I do know that Americans can be saved," he said. 

"That's really our call is to rise up and to make this our finest hour as believers, because we may well indeed be in those last hours."

The time period of 40 days has great significance in the Bible, figuring into the lives of Jesus, Jonah and Hosea, among others.

The world is in the middle of an important 40-day period of its own, says American Pastors Network (APN, americanpastorsnetwork.net), and APN President Sam Rohrer hopes America, the church, pastors and believers are listening to the message God is sending.

"This week, through Oct.1, is the National Week of Repentance, and these 40 days between the eclipse watched by much of North America and Sept. 30 have great significance," Rohrer said. "These 40 days are a time for prayer, especially in the wake of many natural disasters and unrest. 

Periods like these were also common in the Bible, where God gave his people warnings and implored them to repent.

"So we must ask, 'What should be happening in our country?'" Rohrer continued. "'How should the American people be responding?' 

We can tie these important questions to everything we see happening in our world—from hurricanes to earthquakes. 

God is indeed trying to get our attention. And everything fits within the context of taking heed of this warning, repenting and getting right with God. 

The American Pastors Network's urgent message is: 'Wake up, church!' Do we understand? Are we hearing and is it leading to repentance?"

Rohrer added that pastors especially should be encouraging their people to listen to God's message, ask "What are you saying, God?" and get on their knees to repent.

"The verse 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)—'If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land'—was used widely during the presidential election of 2016," Rohrer said. 

"But now, many have forgotten. 

The post-election message was that our nation had a short period of time—a small window of opportunity—to steer the ship right. 

What will the church do in that window? 

Go back to sleep or further engage? 

These past few weeks have been a very tangible wake-up call. 

We must look up and understand, and know that what happens in this country hinges on the people of God. 

Are they hearing, are they watching and are they responding?"

Rohrer and his fellow hosts of APN's radio ministry, "Stand in the Gap Today," which airs on 425 stations nationwide, have been addressing these timely headlines and their tie to biblical times.

"In Isaiah Chapter 5, the prophet Isaiah proclaimed judgment on the Jerusalem of his day," Rohrer said on a recent "Stand in the Gap" program. 

"Could his words be the final words of judgment on America of our day? 

His message was one of final judgment. 

No more warnings. 

No more time. 

God said, I'll destroy your nation because you've rejected my commands and despised My holy name. 

Therefore, My fearsome anger will come against you and no nation will stand against Me. 

In that day, Israel deserved God's judgment. 

We in America should look in the mirror and consider our sins in light of Israel then: 

materialism; apathy; ignorance; moral relativism; addictions of all types; bribery and corruption; rampant dishonesty. 

Is not God clearly warning our nation?"

The Bible says Satan the devil, the former angel stationed at God’s heavenly throne who has been the enemy of the Creator and mankind for centuries, will become a physical man in his final moments, according to a brand-new book by a best-selling Christian author.

Kovacs points out that God has stated in the Bible that He tells everyone the end of the story well in advance, so people will know when it finally happens that it’s taking place all according to the divine Master Plan.

“I declare the end from the beginning,” says God in Isaiah 46:10.

Kovacs notes, “The end of Satan is told through countless Scriptures in the Bible, from Genesis where it was foretold that Jesus would eventually crush the serpent’s head, to Revelation where he’s tossed into the lake of fire. And there are dozens of passages in between that provide extreme detail about the final destiny for the wicked one.”

Among the most jaw-dropping details in “Shocked by the Bible 2” is the fact that God will change Satan from an angel to a physical, mortal human being.

“People can read it for themselves right now,” says Kovacs. “This has been in the Bible for thousands of years, and most people just gloss right over it. Satan, who wants to be like the Most High God, is going to be changed into a mortal man just before he’s executed.”

Here’s what God has already told Satan: “Wilt thou yet say before him that slayeth thee, I am God? but THOU SHALT BE A MAN, and no God, in the hand of him that slayeth thee.” (Ezekiel 28:9 King James Version)

In a more modern translation such as the New International Version, that same quote from God states: “Will you then say, ‘I am a god,’ in the presence of those who kill you? You will be but a mortal, not a god, in the hands of those who slay you.” (Ezekiel 28:9 NIV)

Kovacs explains, “Not only does God clearly tell Satan the devil that he is not a god, the Creator also informs the dark angel that he will eventually become a mortal man, and that he will be SLAIN, suffering the wages of sin, which is death, according to the apostle Paul in Romans 6:23.”

Kovacs says God also spoke through the prophet Isaiah of Satan’s final moments, noting that people on the Earth will look upon Satan’s dead body once he’s turned into a man:

“Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, IS THIS THE MAN that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms … ?” (Isaiah 14:15-16 KJV)

And once Satan is slain, Kovacs says prophecy shows Satan will never exist in any form again.

“All those who know you among the nations are appalled at you. You have become an object of horror and will never exist again.” (Ezekiel 28:19 HCSB)

Kovacs says: “If people would just read the words on the pages of their Bible and believe them for what they plainly say, their eyes would open up to what God has been broadcasting to humans since the garden of Eden.

“All wicked individuals, if they do not repent of their sin and obey their Maker, are going to be killed in the lake of fire, being consumed into ashes and destroyed from any further existence. 

This is a main message of the Bible.”

And there are many other Scriptures which detail the end of “the wicked,” both in the physical and spiritual dimensions. Here are just a few:

• The wicked die and disappear, but the family of the godly stands firm. (Proverbs 12:7 NLT)

• And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming (2 Thessalonians 2:8 KJV)

• He will put the wicked men to a horrible death (Matthew 21:41 NLT)

• though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever. (Psalm 92:7 NIV)

• You have made my enemies retreat before me; I annihilate those who hate me. (Psalm 18:40 HCSB)

WILL 2018 MIDTERMS SPARK CIVIL WAR?

Exclusive: Myra Adams sees potential violence should Donald Trump be impeached

Jesus rarely gets the credit, but He said it first: 

“If a kingdom is divided against itself, it cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, it cannot stand.” (Mark 3:24-25)

But most often that Bible passage is attributed to Abraham Lincoln. The year was 1858, and, as a candidate for the U.S. Senate, Lincoln said, 

“A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently half slave and half free.”

Lincoln lost that Senate election, but two years later, on Nov. 6, 1860, he was elected the 16th president of the United States. Then on April 12, 1861, the “house divided” could no longer stand, and the Civil War officially began.

Fast forward 156 years and national division is the worst I have seen in my lifetime. (My reference point is having lived through the ’60s and ’70s.) 

The difference between then and now is that permanent division has crept into and corroded every segment of our society, culture, government, the military, media, law, the economy, health care, education, race relations, sports, religion and entertainment.

Politics has evolved not only into a red-state vs. blue-state minefield, but the two major parties are internally fractured beyond repair – leaving Democrats sparring with their far-left comrades and Republicans divided by those farther to the right. 

Meanwhile, the prevailing attitude of “you are with us or against us” has resulted in the near-extinction of moderates. Compromise is now considered an evil, almost traitorous act.

That leads us to the overused word, “polarization” – a common, polite, acceptable term used to describe the Fractured States of America. 

However, what everyone on all sides of the political spectrum instinctively knows, but is afraid to admit, is that simmering under the surface, pressure is building – 

volcanic like pressure that could inevitably lead to a politically cataclysmic event or series of events that bursts the bubble of civility, and all hell will break loose.

This week, I read a New Yorker piece with the headline, “Is America Headed for a New Kind of Civil War?” written by Robin Wright.

While attempting to answer the title question, Wright had a disturbing conversation with national security expert Keith Mines, writing,

 “He returned to Washington after 16 years to find conditions that he had seen nurture conflict abroad now visible at home. It haunts him.”

Mines, believing that Civil War levels of anger are prevalent today in the U.S., told Wright, 

“It is like 1859, everyone is mad about something, and everyone has a gun.”

Mines’ quote got me thinking about a political event that could potentially lead to Civil War type rage – the midterm elections – scheduled for Nov. 6, 2018.

If, (and that is a big if, but not improbable) Democrats win the 24 seats needed to gain back control of the House of Representatives, there is wide speculation that they are likely to begin impeachment proceedings against President Trump.

Furthermore, we could expect even darker war clouds and maybe even an impeachment conviction if Democrats also win control of the Senate. (Again, takeover not likely, but if so, two-thirds of the Senate must vote to convict. But always remember nothing is impossible in politics, and always expect the unexpected.)

At the very least, as I wrote back in May, Democrats are likely to use impeachment as a fundraising tool and a get-out-the-vote message because it is an easy emotional pitch for Democratic candidates to say, “Trump, you’re fired,” or “You vote, we impeach.”

But one congressman can’t wait! As reported this week in The Hill:

“Call for Trump impeachment puts pressure on top Dems”

The first two paragraphs read:

“Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) on Tuesday threatened to force a House floor vote next week on impeaching President Trump, creating a new dilemma for his party’s leaders.

“Green said he would file an impeachment resolution next week while condemning Trump’s attacks on NFL players who have kneeled during the national anthem to protest police brutality.”

Certainly, the bar for what constitutes an impeachable offense has been lowered.

So now it’s time to quote Roger Stone on this incendiary issue.

Regardless of what one thinks of the GOP strategist’s antics, the long-time Trump confidant is an expert on American politics, past, present and future. (Stone famously helped convince Trump that he should run for president in 2016 because he could win over an angry electorate.)

With that in mind, on Sept. 15, a Washington Post analysis column called “Monkey Cage” ran the headline:

“Roger Stone says there would be an ‘insurrection’ if Trump were impeached. Is he right?”

The analysis began:

“In a recent interview with TMZ, President Trump’s confidant Roger Stone was asked about the prospect of the president’s impeachment, a topic that has occasionally arisen in recent months. 

‘You will have a spasm of violence in this country, an insurrection like you’ve never seen,’ Stone responded. 

‘The people will not stand for impeachment. A politician that votes for it would be endangering their own life.'”

Sure, Roger Stone is known for using colorful words and phrases, and sometimes he exaggerates for effect in media interviews. But Stone’s TMZ quotes have some merit because the mainstream media have little understanding how strongly Trump supporters would stand by their man if he were impeached.

For example, this week I chatted with my Trump-supporting neighbor who is a retired, worldly gentleman. When I asked if he still supported Trump, he gleefully replied, “I love Trump more every day because he is standing up and defending America.”

That’s precisely why I agree with Stone’s assessment that Trump’s impeachment would trigger a “spasm of violence” given that Trump lovers love America and love that Trump loves America – and would gladly defend both.

All we know for sure is that the 2018 midterm elections and its aftermath have the potential to be unlike any other. 

Our “divided house” stands on unstable ground, and only with God’s help will it stand strong.

SWISS GOVERNMENT FRETS OVER 'ISLAMOPHOBIA'

While nearly 4 in 10 citizens feel 'threatened' by Muslims

Yet in that European nation, officials are concerned about protecting minorities and battling “Islamophobia,” reports Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin.

“The crisis is real,” writes Bruce Bawer, author of “While Europe Slept” in a new report at Gatestone Institute.

He cites the conclusions of Saida Keller-Messahli, who has warned of the promotion of violence by imams and the unwillingness of authorities to confront the problem.

“At least one high-profile individual in Switzerland has long rejected the official line about successful Muslim integration and unfounded infidel Islam-hatred: 

Saïda Keller-Messahli. Of Tunisian descent, living in Zurich, she has spent years investigating institutional Islam in Switzerland and urging politicians to take action against it. 

Asked in a recent interview whether [imam] Abu Ramadan is an isolated case, Keller-Messahli said no: 

such preaching, she explained, is common in Swiss mosques, part of an international strategy to plant a ‘discriminatory’ and ‘violent’ Islam in Switzerland and elsewhere in the West.”

It was Ramadan, who originally sought asylum from Libya but over the years has returned there several times, who was found to be preaching that Muslims who befriend “infidels” are “cursed until the Day of Judgment,” the report explains.

“Ramadan has been living in Switzerland for almost two decades. In 1998, he came to the alpine country from Libya as an asylum seeker, but over the years has returned home several times – in addition to visiting Saudi Arabia and other Muslim countries,” Bawer reported. 

“This fact should have automatically negated his right to asylum and resulted in his expulsion. But the years went by, and the government, ignoring the evidence right there on his passport, did nothing.

“On the contrary: over the years, in fact, the Swiss state had given Ramadan the equivalent of $620,000 in welfare payments,” he reported.

Bawer charged that Switzerland’s pollsters and government officials act as if the country is suffering from anti-Muslim bigotry.

EGYPT "HUNTING DOWN" GAYS - FORCED ANAL EXAMS

Egypt "hunting down" gays, conducting forced anal exams - Amnesty

CAIRO (Reuters) - Six Egyptian men arrested for “promoting sexual deviancy” and “debauchery” on social media will be subjected to anal examinations ahead of their Oct. 1 trial, Amnesty International said on Saturday.

Their arrest is part of a wider crackdown against homosexuality that started last week when a group of people were seen raising a rainbow flag at a concert, a rare public show of support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights in the conservative Muslim country.

At least 11 people have since been arrested, Amnesty said, and one man has been sentenced to six years in jail after local media launched a highly critical campaign against those who raised the rainbow flag at a Mashrou’ Leila concert, a popular Lebanese alternative rock band whose lead singer is openly gay.

Amnesty said the Forensic Medical Authority was due to subject the six men to anal examinations to determine whether they have had homosexual sex.

Judicial sources said any defendant accused of “debauchery” or “sexual deviancy”, a euphemism for homosexuality in Egypt, is subjected to a medical examination based on an order from the Public Prosecutor.

“Allegations of torturing or insulting those medically examined are lies not worth responding to. The examinations are carried out by a forensic doctor who swore to respect his profession and its ethics,” one judicial source said.

Amnesty said such examinations violate the prohibition of torture and other ill-treatment under international law.

“The fact that Egypt’s Public Prosecutor is prioritizing hunting down people based on their perceived sexual orientation is utterly deplorable. These men should be released immediately and unconditionally – not put on trial,” said Najia Bounaim, North Africa Campaigns Director at Amnesty International.

“Forced anal examinations are abhorrent and amount to torture. The Egyptian authorities have an appalling track record of using invasive physical tests which amount to torture against detainees in their custody. All plans to carry out such tests on these men must be stopped immediately.”

Egypt’s Muslim religious establishment is voicing its support for the government’s moves against homosexuals.

“Al Azhar will stand against calls for sexual perversion the same way it has stood against extremist groups,” a preacher at the 1,000-year-old seat of Sunni Muslim learning said in his Friday prayers sermon.

Although homosexuality is not specifically outlawed in Egypt, it is a conservative society and discrimination is rife. Gay men are frequently arrested and typically charged with debauchery, immorality or blasphemy.

The largest crackdown on homosexuals took place in 2001, when police raided a floating disco called the Queen Boat. Fifty-two men were tried in the case.
